I figured I'd write a review, because I feel this little fan has gotten some undue bad press.

For what it is, it is a very good little fan. It's very small, and sleek looking. Within 15 minutes of bringing it into my office cubicle, someone commented on how "cool" it looked.

Beyond the aesthetics of the fan, it produces a nice breeze on the low setting, which is virtually silent. Nothing that powerful, but you can definitely feel the breeze up to five feet away or so. The high setting seems to about double or triple the air moved, but it does produce a slight motor noise. Nothing too loud. At five feet away or so, it's just a low hum. Anything beyond that, and you can't really hear it.

For me, it is exactly what I was looking for. A quiet fan that lowers the temperature by a couple degrees and moves air around.

Pros:

- Virtually silent on the lowest setting

- Perfect for an office environment

- Looks "cool"

- Rotates on its base, so I don't have to pick it up to point it in a different direction.

Cons:

- High setting is arguably loud (it's acceptable in my environment)

- It's not a power house fan (if you just had a two hour work out session, this fan isn't going to cool you down much)

- It takes two hands to change between off/high/low settings, since it swivels on its base, and a dial controls speeds (one hand to hold it from swiveling, and another to turn the dial)

This little fan delivers! I do nails & bought this because of its ability to direct air downward to dry nails. After trying it out at home I decided to keep it here. It is quiet and I found I could raise the thermostat several degrees while I am relaxing in the evening with the fan moving the air near me. There is no "gust" like from other fans, just a gentle, yet surprisingly effective breeze.

This is a great little fan. Perfect size to sit on the end table. Pefect for women having hot flashes as you can aim it right at your face to cool you off quickly. Even on high it's quiet. Exactly what I was looking for.

I bought this based on another reviewer who said they use it on a bedroom nightstand. We have the same situation, one partner who likes minimal A/C and the other who is DYING and can't sleep. Unforunately, this fan has too much inconsistent motor noise. So, unless you're a quick and deep sleeper, you're going to constantly wake up from the varying motor noise (not the fan itself, but the motor). It would be great if it's constant, but it isn't. The whirring pitch changes frequently, and you WILL notice it.

Incidentally, this was purchased AFTER going through 3 of the Vornado's with the cloth blades. Those are actually much quieter, and the similar motor issue is much less noticeable. The problem with those is, over time, the fan housing rattles! I'm back to using the 3rd of 3, since it rattles the least and at a specific angle it doesn't happen. Made in China, so what do you expect? What's actually needed as a bedroom nightstand solution is the perfect quiet of a PC-cooling type fan in a table-top version, but I haven't been able to find anything like this. YET.

This fan works great in an office however (which is where it got moved to).

It's not a blasting fan. It's subtle. At 5' away, on either setting, it cools with a gentle breeze. It's enough to make papers move at that distance.

The major negative that all users will experience about this fan is the switch. It's not a one-hand operation. You HAVE to hold the housing while sliding the switch on the bottom, otherwise the whole fan will move with it.

This is a great fan, multi directional including straight up. At the low speed it is virtually inaudible.

To avoid having to use two hands and reach back to the fan to turn it on or off you may wish to do the following: Order the Leviton 5410 Heavy Duty Cord Switch ($3.29 + free shipping if ordered together with the fan). First turn the fan on, set the desired speed, then UNPLUG the fan. With the fan UNPLUGED insert the switch (follow the included instructions) at the mid point in the cord (equidistant from the fan and the plug). This gives you an on/off switch 3 feet away from the fan. Do use the heavy duty Rocker switch and not the more fragile Wheel switch.

The above solution is intended for situations where the plug is near the fan as in the case of a sub woofer and/or a PC pluged into a surge protector under a desk at or near the rear of the desk. Obviously the switch can be installed anywhere on the cord that is most convenient.

I am very warm at night. This fan set on low and sitting on my bedside table is quiet and I can position it just where I want it.

I was looking for a quiet fan for my office at work. I do not like a heavy breeze blowing on me (I have allergies and the air stirs them up and makes my eyes water), and I am very sensitive to noise. I have a regular big fan you can get at most department stores but it's just too much fan (too much air and too much noise) for me in my office. After reading the reviews on the Vornado products I decided to buy the Vornado Flippi and I am not disappointed. I have it on my desk operating on the low mode and it truly is very quiet. The sound it does emit is not the least bit annoying to my ears, but it is so quiet that even that noise eventually fades from my consciousness quickly if I'm focusing on work stuff.

The sound on the high mode is definitely louder, but it's not that horrible rattling noise often accompanied with bigger department store fans. That said, the very gentle breeze I get on low mode is adequate for my needs.

I definitely plan to look into the larger Vornado room fans and the Vornado heater for home.

I love fans and I love Vornado products so I was excited to order this fan.

The not so good: Awkward to turn on and off as mentioned. It's not very powerful, even on high. High also makes some motor noise. It also has an initial "chemical" smell, probably due to the plastic used in it's manufacture. I would expect that to go away after a while.

The good: Easy to place where you want it. Low speed is very quiet and does provide just a bit of breeze, looks good too.

Overall: It's OK, just recognize it's limitations.

Great fan for your nightstand. Very quiet on low, but still moves some air. Very focused, directional airstream. Great for getting some air movement only where you want it. Planning to buy another!

One thing that wasn't immediately obvious from the photos and other reviews is that this fan has a glossy finish. It is very compact and very quiet on the lower speed. The higher speed moves more air, but is pretty noisy.

I bought this to sit at my desk and keep some airflow on my face. It does the job perfectly. I especially like the small footprint on my desk.

For me the switch at the bottom of the fan works with one hand, though I did have to dust my desk and clean the rubber feet of the base to keep it from slipping.

Highly recommended. Would have been five stars if the finish were matte and if the higher speed were quieter. Still, very good fit for my use!
