This hip 1940s tabletop fan, however, adds a little retro flair to a contemporary living room and is stylish enough to leave out all year round. Reproduced in honor of Vornado's 60th anniversary, this replica comes in its original gray-green color and features a classic streamlined design with rounded twin injector cones mounted on a rotating stand that allows vertical or horizontal positioning. The VF20 offers three different motor speeds, which can be set to the desired level of air flow. The single propeller is deep-pitched to deliver a higher velocity of air than shallower blades and to provide more thorough circulation throughout a room. The motor is permanently lubricated and never requires oiling. However, the grill and base need occasional cleaning with a damp cloth and mild dishwashing soap. This is a gorgeous fan. The photo on Amazon doesn't begin to do it justice. The gray-green metal case shines softly; the grill (also metal, it seems to me) is gold, and there is a gold nameplate above the base with Vornado written on it in retro script. And the fan has a solid, old-fashioned quality. It swivels easily to blow in any direction, even straight up. It has the feeling of the old fans my grandmother kept in the house when I was growing up. The three-speed mechanism clicks solidly into place. On the lowest speed, the fan is very quiet. The size is compact and enables you to place the fan almost anywhere you would like a breeze.
I didn't give the fan five stars only because I personally would have liked it to have been equipped with the infinitely variable speed control, rather than three speeds. I have the infinite control on the other five Vornado air circulators I own, and I think it's great to be able to control the speed so completely. But I guess the three-speed control is more faithful to the fan of the 1940s this was based on. Also, I don't know if I would recommend this fan to households with small children. The bars on the protective grille are fairly wide apart. It would be easy for a toddler to stick fingers through. I guess you have to be careful when using any fan around children, though. In short, this is a great item!

This fan is not like the typical plastic fan you'd get at many retailers. It's 90% metal. It rotates 180. The highest setting is kinda loud, but not annoying. The paint job is top-notch. This fan is about a foot tall and very sturdy. The only disappointment is that the "Vornado" plate at the base is plastic. It is kind of cheap looking. Other than that I am extremely satisfied.
On the vornado website they are selling these fans for around eighty bucks with free shipping. It took only four days to get it delivered.

Pretty retro fan,

I own an original Vornado fan made in the 1940's that looks identical to this new one. The only visible difference is the addition of a rear finger guard. Very authentic retro style, and probably one of the finer looking fans from this era.
The reason I rated it at 4 stars is this new model has a plastic blade, but is all steel otherwise. Side by side my 40's model will outperform it. With a metal blade this fan would be any easy 5 stars.
