A real beauty!,

This is a gorgeous fan. The photo on Amazon doesn't begin to do it justice. The gray-green metal case shines softly; the grill (also metal, it seems to me) is gold, and there is a gold nameplate above the base with Vornado written on it in retro script. And the fan has a solid, old-fashioned quality. It swivels easily to blow in any direction, even straight up. It has the feeling of the old fans my grandmother kept in the house when I was growing up. The three-speed mechanism clicks solidly into place. On the lowest speed, the fan is very quiet. The size is compact and enables you to place the fan almost anywhere you would like a breeze.I didn't give the fan five stars only because I personally would have liked it to have been equipped with the infinitely variable speed control, rather than three speeds. I have the infinite control on the other five Vornado air circulators I own, and I think it's great to be able to control the speed so completely. But I guess the three-speed control is more faithful to the fan of the 1940s this was based on. Also, I don't know if I would recommend this fan to households with small children. The bars on the protective grille are fairly wide apart. It would be easy for a toddler to stick fingers through. I guess you have to be careful when using any fan around children, though. In short, this is a great item!

This fan is not like the typical plastic fan you'd get at many retailers. It's 90% metal. It rotates 180. The highest setting is kinda loud, but not annoying. The paint job is top-notch. This fan is about a foot tall and very sturdy. The only disappointment is that the "Vornado" plate at the base is plastic. It is kind of cheap looking. Other than that I am extremely satisfied. On the vornado website they are selling these fans for around eighty bucks with free shipping. It took only four days to get it delivered.

I own an original Vornado fan made in the 1940's that looks identical to this new one. The only visible difference is the addition of a rear finger guard. Very authentic retro style, and probably one of the finer looking fans from this era.The reason I rated it at 4 stars is this new model has a plastic blade, but is all steel otherwise. Side by side my 40's model will outperform it. With a metal blade this fan would be any easy 5 stars.

The best I've seen!,
This review is from: Vornado VF20 1940's Replica Air Circulator (Kitchen)
I think this has to be the BEST table fan I've ever seen that wasn't an antique. The new fans never compare in quality to my father's fan that I remember as a child. So I never bought one.. TIL NOW! I did a double take in the store and this fan's solidly built and good looking too. A remarkably well made fan considering it's made in CHINA! I haven't seen anything this well made that was made here in the good ol' USA since my early childhood! As anyone knows... nothings compares to 40's USA craftsmanship, but since this is 05's China-manufacture... I'm simply amazed. Of course, the price reflects this. A C-note is quite a tidy sum these days for ANY table fan. However, based on the quality I hazard a guess and say this will probably out last me! Definitely FIRST RATE!

I have an original of this fan. The replica looks EXACTLY like the original. By the way, mine still works GREAT, so if the redux works as well for as long, the value is there, even at the price.

I bought this fan to replace a Patton Air Circulator fan. While this Vornado is smooth, mostly metal, and looks really cool, it does not move as much air as a big Patton fan. However, Patton fans are now made in China, and they are terrible. This Vornado runs smoothly, like the fan has been balanced, and on its high setting is comparable to a Patton fan. I like this fan a lot. Cool retro styling, smooth operation, almost silent on its low setting. I recommend it.

This fan is really cool looking. I love the green color. I agree with the other reviewers regarding the plastic at the base. Furthermore the fan blades are plastic as well. I feel it does not push enough air (ie it should have a higher setting). I also wish the cord was attached to the base instead of the fan itself as it is less attractive. It should also have a handle to help in carrying it. The high setting to me is too loud. I have fans that push more air (allaire bought from Restoration Hardware) that are much quieter and cost the same.I would love to see them recreate the floor model of this fan. which should be easy as it is the same fan with a stand. This would be expensive but I surely would buy it!

Look Great, Sounds Terrible,

Love the looks and air movement - but it is not quiet. Within 2-3 weeks started with a low rumble that sounds like bearings going bad. Worst when the fan is horizontal - which is ho you'd like it most of the time.

The first one i received had a noisy motor. But, as always Amazon was quick with the return. The second one is quiet and works great. There are a few things that were overlooked in the design. First, the original had a small handle to pick it up by. Also, The cord and control is on the back of the motor. The original model had the cord and control on the base, which is cleaner looking and easier to use. Lastly, I agree with other reviewers that the plastic emblem is cheap looking. The entire fan is metal. Except the blade and cheesy emblem. They made one improvement over the original, the safety grill is much better.

I got this one off Ebay and I like the retro look and for a Chinese made fan, the quality is amazing. It is very quiet on all 3 speeds, sturdy, and energy efficient.Plus it tilts upward to use as a hassock style fan to pick up cook air from the floor and move it around. I rate this fan a buy IF you don't mind parting with a c-note. |
