5.0 out of 5 stars Best sight for the price
This sight, is BANG for your buck. I've had it on a 5.56 carbine for over a year now, 10,000+ rounds with it on. It's accurate out to 300m, the zero hasn't budged, you've got red dot for indoors or lower lighting, and green dot for outdoors, and even full day in the desert, with tinted eyepro, it's fully visible. Has a +- intensity adjustment, as well as a quick "NV"...

Amazon was misleading on the Vortex Strike Fire. They indicated that it was suitable for the AR-15 which leads to believe that you will get the extra high mount vs. the low mount for the AR-15. 5.0 out of 5 stars Best sight for the price, May 29, 2010
This review is from: Vortex® StrikeFire Hunting Version Red Dot Riflescope (Misc.)
Has a +- intensity adjustment, as well as a quick "NV" nightvision button that toggles it to ultra-dim, and then back to it's previous setting, same as an eotech. The construction is rock solid, about the size of an m-68 aimpoint. I've beat this thing to hell, it's been dropped, weapon thrown landing optic first, rolled on top of, ground into the dirt... and I've changed the battery once; uses one CR2. The x2 optic is very usuable, maintains zero and parallax isn't a problem. It threads in, with a rubber seal, keeps it secure, doesn't wiggle loose or rattle.

Cons; If you want to consider it one, the dot is not perfectly circular. It did clear up quite a bit with some hours, however it's still starred. To me, I don't find it cumbersome, a dot is a dot is a dot. We're not talking about 1/8th moa reticles, it's a $150 red dot optic. That's dead accurate. I find that a * is just as easy to place on a target as a .

Another con, which was self inflicted; I use brakekleen on guns, works great. Also is very potent. After several liberal uses, it started breaking down the adhesion of the rubber toggle section. Mind you, the buttons still worked perfectly, and the sight didn't stop, the rubber gasket just started pulling off. I shoved some welders flexible marine epoxy in it, and pressed it back down, hasn't budged since. I don't think normal gun cleaner will harm the factory adhesive, nor would brakekleen.... if I didn't use it to rinse the gunk off the optics too.

Either way, I have three of these optics now. One high mount, one low mount, and the $200 sparc version, which is half the size- smaller lense which sits on an FN SLP 12ga, and also maintains it's zero perfectly.... maybe 500 slugs with it on. I've shot my fair share of $500-$2,000 optics. If your purpose is shooting, and hitting what you're aiming at, with reliability, for fun, for hunting, or work conus/oconus, this is the sight for you. If your purpose is bragging at a shooting tournament that you have the coolest sight featured on rifle magazine, and it matches your kimber ultra pro max custom delta 2..... then I wouldn't stoop below trijicon, and you need to add another 0 to the price tag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice red dot, November 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vortex® StrikeFire Hunting Version Red Dot Riflescope (Misc.)
Its not a EOTech, Aimpoint, or Trijicon, but for the money, its a good, solid red dot. Its zeroed at the range quickly and has been accurate. If your on a budget, this is what you should get.

Amazon was misleading on the Vortex Strike Fire. They indicated that it was suitable for the AR-15 which leads to believe that you will get the extra high mount vs. the low mount for the AR-15. The Item was contracted for delivery through Adorama Camera, who, when I pointed out their discrepancy, immediately took a New York attitude with me. I attempted to point out the fact that all they had to do was send me the correct mount and in return I would send the incorrect one back to them. They didn't want to hear it, they just said you need to send the Item back if its not the right item. Well, the return policy stated that to receive full refund the item had to be in unused condition. Well when I got the scope the box was already torn up and packed that way, so I wasn't going to take a chance on getting 1/2 my purchase price back from those jerks so I chose to just purchase the correct mount from the Vortex company. My suggestion is to buy from the Vortex company directly rather than Amazon or Adorama and save the headache! Since I haven't been able to rate the item because I haven't been able to use it because Amazon and Adorama have been idiots. But, if I had to rate the customer service I received from Adorama Camera...it would be below the belly of a snake in a ditch in death valley!
