Like other reviewers, I did a lot of youtube watching and review reading in trying to make a decision on which red dot sight to purchase. Took in the good, bad and ugly (mostly high prices elsewhere) of it all, and opted to purchase the Vortex Strikefire.

Having put about 200 rounds downrange with it now, I will say that the Strikefire makes my AR happy and I am glad to have made this purchase. The Strikefire is easy to install, very easy to adjust (just keep a penny in your pocket) and it holds zero very firmly. Both the green and red dots are very visible even on the lowest intensity setting; I switched back and forth between the lowest and next-to-lowest settings, and liked them both a lot. Green seemed a little easier for my eyes to quickly acquire, so it seems green will be my choice.

If you are looking for a dot scope for your AR, I would recommend this one.

Setting Zero: The AR that this scope is mounted on was purchased new mid-2012, and its iron sights have been well zeroed during the 2500 - 3000 round (mostly .223 55gr FMJ) familiarity period of the last few months. I mounted the Strikefire and just aligned its dot with the known zero line of the iron sights... the first shot was less than 1 inch left of dead center. Used my handy penny to make the needed windage adjustments and had a great zero within eight rounds. Can't beat that.

Holding Zero: Put six mags (180 rounds) downrange and the Strikefire did not stray from zero at all. Before and after shooting make sure that all mounting bolts are tight --- those holding the scope and those connected to your rail. If not, the slightest slippage at one of those connect points could fool you into thinking that the Strikefire was losing zero, when it isn't. Yes...

First off, this is not an Aimpoint. It's also not $600. For the money, it's awesome. If I was heading to Iraq, I would most definitely buy an Aimpoint. But for the occasional target / beer can / ground squirrel / or zombie that may or may not ever climb my fence, this thing is perfect. Quality is first rate, don't worry about that. Red dot only version is way brighter than red / green, so get the red only. Optics are extremely clear, anybody says different, they're full of it. I also bought a cantilever mount... looks WAY better. As for Vortex as a company, you'll be blown away with the service and responsiveness, more on that later. Issues I had... the scope caps were way too hard to close as most people will attest. One phone call to the very friendly gal at Vortex, and I had new caps at the house in two days. Totally solved the problem. Original caps were either too hard of a durometer, too old or too small, either way, the new ones are awesome. Also, the dot was giving me problems as others mentioned. It was bent egg shaped. Another E-mail to Vortex, and they sent me info. Turns out, the funny dot shape was caused by MY EYE. If you look at the dot with both eyes and the shape of the dot changes, it's your eyes. If you rotate the scope while looking at the dot, and the dot shape does not turn with the scope, it's not the scopes fault, it's your eye. I also had other people describe the dot they saw. Each person gave a different description. To me, it looked like a bent egg. To my wife, it looked like a fly. To a buddy, it looked star shaped. This is not the scopes fault, but caused by astigmatisms in our eyes. Everyone has them to one degree or another. This red dot is a 4 MOA. That can seem large at 100 yards and greater.Read more ›

This sight receives consitently good reviews, both on the sites it is sold on and independent weapon forums. I have the one with the "AR" type high mounts, which went I put on the Colt/Uramax .22 AR-15 clone I have. The sight itself seems to be well made and it is easy to adjust. While bigger then an eotech, it is half the cost as well and just as easy to shoot and acquire the dot. You can choose either red or green dot with just a push of a button. Brightness adjustment is easy as well. Comes with a 2x doubler, but I don't think I will ever actually use it. The being said the unit itself is a good enough value as it is without the doubler. The unit also has an auto shut off feature which comes in very handy. Although I haven't had to use it, most rate the customer service of the manufacturer as top notch. I would recommend it.

Edit: I have also mounted this on a forward carry handle mount on a Colt 9mm. Very accurate in that type of set up and still easy to aquire the sight. I will likely be purchasing a second one so as not to have to move and adjust the sight each time.

Edit: I did get a second one and it had a problem with the threading on the battery cover. Vortex responded to my email the next day with instructions on warranty returns. I had a new one at my door with-in a week of shipping the other one to them, so I am pleased with their customer service.

I too discovered this optic via The Nutnfancy Project. If I am interested in a particular product I always check to see if he has reviewed it. I got a new AR-15 and was in the market for a Red-Dot and his video "Vortex Strikefire - $135 Aimpoint?" (check it out for a detailed coverage on both the pros and cons of this product). It looked good to me so let the research begin. I checked out tons of forums and review sights as well as any other reviews I could find on U-Yube and this sight seemed to impress almost everyone. Also, when there was a problem Vortex seems to replace it very quickly and with no questions asked. Hope I never find out but I am glad it is there.

For reference, I have put about 600 to 650 rounds through with this sight.

I put this mount on a 16" barrel Stag Arms 15 M3. I also put on MagPul BUIS flip up sights as this is a flat top reciever with no front sight post. I got it with the high mount recommended for AR-15's. The mount is a nice solid chunk of metal and so far nothing has come loose. It also co-witnesses perfectly with the Mag-Pul sights.

The glass is top notch on this optic. Crystal clear and has not fogged up on cold or hot days. It does come with a 2X doubler. The glass on the magnifier is clear but gives a slight fish eye effect and takes a good bit of sighting radius away. It creates a bit of a tunnel vision effect. I also don't like that you have to screw it into the back of the sight. The treads are very fine and there is no shortage of them so you are screwing and unscrewing for quite a while. I did not really intend to use it anyway so it was not a big deal for me. It does work ok and for an included accessory it is not bad considering the overall price.
