Vortex Chillers Volumizer Crystals

I bought this purely to satisfy my curiosity as to what "volumizer crystals" are. The description - to put it plainly - is a bunch of marketing mumbo jumbo.

The bag I received was basically a mixture of rock salt, water softener salt (big round pellets), and the kind of salt you use on a driveway during winter. I think the idea here is that 1) the salt lowers the temp of the ice and 2) the irregular shapes create a series of holes in the ice for the fog to come up through in the chiller.

The product isn't wholly infective - though I'm not sure I noticed a big difference - its just that its waaaaay over priced for a bag of random salt chunks.

I read the other review here that these crystals are a marketing ploy, but this was my 4th year using them and I swear by em because they really do work. Maybe they are made out of a combination of different stuff I could buy myself and mix up, but there's no way I want to mess with experiment after experiment when I can just get a bag of these.

When I use these I tried the chiller (this was my 4th year using the Cold Fusion) set up not using the crystals and then using them and I found the claim of 2x output to be pretty much spot on. Without the crystals, my fog was really low on the ground, but was a little thinner looking. But with the crystals added to the ice, the fog did look about twice as thick and lasted longer before it started to warm up, plus it was super white in color just like real fog looks like. When I don't use the crystals the fog has a slight blue type of haze to it and isn't as convincing as when I do.

My first bag lasted me 3 years, same as the gallon of low fog juice I bought from the same seller and I got my second bag (and juice) last year and still have enough for this coming Halloween.

I don't want to detract from the other review posted here, but if I can't afford $40 for six years worth of super cold low lying fog then I don't need to haunt my yard man! I will totally buy this again along with their low fog juice. I will never get that crappy juice they sell in Wallyworld again, as it it just rises up to head high (and up into my trees in my yard as well) and then stays in the air and ruins my entire display. Highly recommend product.
