Book Description

On a night when prophecies stir, an outraged dragon vents his anger, Damian is ripped from everything he knows and Sam's nightmares become real...

Sam isn't enjoying university life, she's disillusioned with her course and having second thoughts about her future. It doesn't help that she keeps having a scary, recurring nightmare and when she thinks things couldn't get worse a creepy man follows her back to her room.
Damian is unique, he has silver eyes, horns and wings, he is also being visited by a ghost girl. She looks so sad and frightened he feels compelled to help her, but the night he reaches out to save her from a dragon's fiery breath he gets ripped from his life, his world, from everything he knows.
Now it's Damian who's lost in an unfamiliar world that's devoid of magic and full of strange monsters. His only connection with home is Sam who he recognises as the ghost girl. Sam has to put aside her fear and disbelief in Damian's explanations about himself to try and help him find his way home.
But in a world without magic is this possible?

Editorial Reviews

Review

Lindsey Parsons writes a fantasy story that is both riveting and believable.  The characters are captivating and the plot keeps readers on the edge of their seats!  This book is a page-turner that will grab readers, wrap them up and hold them  hostage all night long, just to find out what will happen next! - Ind'tale Magazine

From the Author

Unlike a lot of other stories in this genre Vortex is told from two points of view. The greater part of the story is told from Sam's point of view, but it is interlaced with chapters told from Damian's point of view too, so you get to see the story unfold  from both sides. Vortex is not only a romance, but an adventure with a race against time, there's mystery and distrust woven around a struggle against evil and all tied up in fate and an old prophesy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just read it August 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
If you're reading this review then I'm assuming you've read the description and are considering reading the book. The description seems weird right? Real world meets old world magic, seems a little drab and odd to say the least...IT'S NOT! I read the description, thinking, "Sure I could make myself read this, it seems interesting enough.". I was sucked in after the first chapter, I needed to know what happened. I started to connect with the characters and understand their story. The more you read into the book the more layers are pealed away and the character's are explained more. I love how the author, Lindsey Parsons, made the plot easy to follow, but still intriguing through the whole book.

Of the two main characters, Damian is my favorite. He seems to be hiding things about himself and worried about what Sam will think of his true nature. He wants so badly for her to approve of him and to love him. I see these traits in so many people in real life, so to see them on a fictional character that is so obviously strong makes me love him. Samantha seems a little naive. She wants so badly to help, but likes to get herself into trouble as well. She does have the best of intentions, but somehow they just don't work out in her favor.

Overall, it kept my interest, kept me involved, and was an overall easy read. Not to mention, there is another book coming out in Spring 2013 to keep the story going!

Just read the book, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written and draws you in June 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Lindsey Parsons does an excellent job weaving a story that draws you in.

In her book we meet Sam, a college student with a past that shades her future, and Damian, whose very existence is a contradiction to nature. Through a series of unpredicted events, these two collide in an adventure that is not only fun, but creative and logical. Relationships build and are tested. The misconceptions and prejudice of both our world and Damian's are explored. It is within these pages we discover whether true love can see beyond what is apparent, or are we doomed to always miss the connection.

A very enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vortex is a modern Sci-Fi Wizard of Oz March 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
** I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

Vortex is a modern Sci-Fi Wizard of Oz

When you read Sci-Fi or Fantasy the expectation is to have your mind soar with adventure and new experiences, freeing your imagination to run wild and "Vortex (Return of the Effra)" does just that.

Much like Dorothy who was swept up in a tornado in the "Wizard of Oz" and met the lion, scarecrow and tin man, Sam transports to another world through a vortex. During her journey she is introduced to an entire ensemble of characters that are not only captivating but also vibrant.

This chronicle thrusts you into a world of romance, dragons, elves, goblins, unicorns, centaurs, demons and some very powerful magic. While this story is intense in spots it is also intimate due to the duel point of view narratives from Sam and Damian.

Skillfully written "Vortex" moves along at a nice pace never leaving a dull moment. Refreshingly all new concepts were explained thoroughly which helped to visualize the world of Penrithian. While there is a minor cliff hanger it's done at an appropriate spot that will leave you wanting to know more and anxiously awaiting the next installment.

I've not read high fantasy for a number of years, having found little difference in the stories on offer; you know the kind of thing I mean: swords, sorcery, wizards and elves. Read more

More About the Author

I was born in Stratford upon Avon and grew up nearby. I now live in a crumbly old farm house in a small village in Warwickshire with my three children and an assortment of animal friends. I enjoy reading, writing, horseback riding, archery and looking after the numerous animals that live with me.
I started writing in 2009, on a complete whim and completed 'Vortex' my first novel and the first book in my Return of The Effra trilogy, eighteen months later. I am now working on the second book 'Wicked Game'.
