Book Description

April 1, 1992
An indispensable political handbook for evaluating candidates' "green quotient" in the 1992 elections. The book includes a list of the most important legislation that has been introduced in the past few years; details the voting record of each member of Congress; and includes a questionnaire designed to determine candidates' allegiance to the green agenda.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This book represents a huge research task painstakingly performed and clearly presented by activists Jeremy ( Beyond Beef , LJ 2/15/92) and Carol Grunewald Rifkin. It outlines 264 bills comprising the preponderance of the "green" legislation introduced in the last two Congresses. It scores each member of these Congresses by his or her action on these bills. And it divides the issues into 14 categories and grades the Bush administration in each category. Working strictly with legislation already introduced, it outlines a "political platform for 1992" and identifies our government's environmental leaders and villains. It also demonstrates a clear pattern of pro-green rhetoric versus anti-environment action by the Bush team. Properly publicized, this book could have a profound effect in and beyond the November elections. And its suggestion of an alternative political framework--one in which issues of the production and distribution of "wealth" give way to concerns about stewardship and sustainability--heralds a trend that may be revolutionary. Voting Green 's timeliness and quality (plus its low cost) recommend its immediate addition to both general and school collections.
