5.0 out of 5 stars Vows - A Lifetime Commitment, December 19, 2001
By

This review is from: Vows (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
For Joshua Kirkland when he said his vows to Vanessa Blanchard, it indeed turned out to be for a lifetime, until death do part. Joshua was a man to be feared, but a man of his word.

From their first meeting on the plane bound for what Vanessa deemed a well deserved, relaxing vacation for her, the chemistry between the two were amazing. Vanessa tries to snub Joshua and Joshua knows what he must do, but when the chips fall, neither can withstand the inevitable. Their love is like magic. Although the vacation is supposed to be short for Vanessa and Joshua must accomplish what he set out to do in little over a week, what's in store for them will last forever, a lifetime.

Vanessa is a smart, businesswoman, who thinks she has everything under control. However, she is appalled when she cannot stop her feelings for Joshua, with the chilling eyes, but a man who not only attracts Vanessa, but other women are definitely attracted to Joshua as well. When Vanessa returns from her vacation, she wonders if she is demented and if she only imagined the dashingly, handsome stranger. But, her body and memories, as well as other proof, lets her know that she did not conjure up Joshua and that indeed, he is or was a full-bloodied, breathing man who wrecked havoc in her life in the short time they spent together. Their time together also has Vanessa longing for more and for what no other man can give or offer her.

Not only is Vanessa caught in the snare, but so is Joshua, bold, dashing, and determined. Life deals the two of them some hard blows, but Joshua will let nothing or no one come between him and what is his -- his soulmate, his other part - the woman he is destined to be with forever.

I have read this book over and over again. For some reason, this is my favorite book written by Ms. Alers. I have read ALL of her book, but, this one has a special place in my heart. Vanessa & Joshua were an outstanding couple in this book and very much in love. They seem to have that chemistry that just attracted each other. Yes, they had problems, but what couple does'nt.In the end, it all worked out for the best.Ms. Aler is a fantastic writer, and I loved the way she really exceeded my expectations with this one...

4.0 out of 5 stars Vows took my breath away, January 5, 2000
This review is from: Vows (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the first book that I read from Ms Alers "Hideaway" series. I was trapped, confined and ultimately swallowed by the military intelligent officer Joshua Kirkland. I think this man is real and living somewhere out there. Anyway, this story is one of true love and patience on both characters. I'm glad they found each after a years separation and I can't wait to read about the rest of the Cole Clan. I'm glad Ms Alers is writing about african-american/african-latino love. It's nice to read about black people from the other parts of the Americas. I appreciate the spanish words here and there throughout the book. I wish you could use more to really describe their romantic feels as well as their other feelings. Keep up the good work Ms Alers and I look forward to the second gen of the Cole family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love at First Vows, July 28, 2003

This review is from: Vows (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Joshua Kirkland is a secret agent sent to investigate 2 million dollars of missing funds within the Grenville-Edwards Aerospace and the leak of classified information on laser guided bombs. He falls quick and hard for his suspect and is willing to protect the "enemy" with his life. He's never been in love until meeting Vanessa. He is investigating to indict the beautiful, sexy, gutsy, brilliant traitor who has jeopardized national security. Vanessa has no clue of the deceitful things going on around her; she just wants to shop 'til she drops while on vacation in Mexico never expecting to fall for a mysterious stranger in 4 days. Vanessa has lots of doubts but Joshua quenches them by confessing his love for her and asking her to marry him. Joshua disappears the day after the wedding. Let the whirlwind begin..............

Excellent contemporary romance with a suspense twist that keeps you on the edge of your seat with anticipation. You will not however have to wait long to find the "love" in this story.

Since reading this novel, I have read every book that Ms. Alers has written! The characters are vivid and real, the love and devotion that they share is awesome. You know she spent time researching the locations in her books, the detail makes you want to pack your bags and go on vacation! A suggested read if you want action and adventure to go along with the romance...

5.0 out of 5 stars Will Last for a Life Time, January 18, 2000

This review is from: Vows (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Vows was the first book I read of Ms. Alers. I founded the cover interesting because the gentlemen appeared caucasian. So I'm thinking an interracial love story. OK. But once you start reading you find that he is part African Amerian & Cuban American. But the color thing isn't as significant as the suspense, mystery and the love that these two are destined to have. I have read other books of Ms. Alers but Vows is the one I have read and re-read several times. This is an Excellent book and I would enjoy seeing this turn into a move for BET.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best!!, June 2, 2004
This review is from: Vows (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
This novel will keep you in suspense and awe at the relationship of the characters. Sometimes it tears you apart how they are committed to their military careers so much that they let it come before their love life. But thanks to the writer it all works out in the end, but not before you go through a roller coaster of emotions wanting the best to happen. This is one of the BEST love stories that I have read in years. I highly recommend it to all and especially book clubs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Some Woman Got to Joshua!, November 2, 2000
This review is from: Vows (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
At long last Alers tells the tale of the cold and dark Joshua Kirkland!! Even though he is not very appoarchable, you can not help but love him, and that 's what Vanessa did. And my girl Vanessa is Joshua's true soul mate. A strong woman for a very strong man. I loved it, please kept the Cole/Kirkland/Sterling saga going with the old characters that we love and new one so we can fall in love with them! Much love Alers!

5.0 out of 5 stars VOWS-unbroken, May 29, 2001
This review is from: Vows (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Love can tame the heart of even the most savage beast or in this case melt the heart of Joshua Kirkland. Vanessa Blanchard did not realize when she met the ooOH-SOoo sexy and mysterious Joshua that she was in for the adventure of a lifetime, literally. Vanessa was just another assignment or so Joshua thought until her dark and seductive charm began to awaken a desire in him to find the truth and protect her for both their future.

Rochelle takes us into the world of military intelligence where "mission is first". Joshua risks career and his heart when he realizes his love for Vanessa and the strength of her love helps guide him into the forgiveness and reconcilation that will unite and reunite the lasting love of family. Joshua is the epitome of strong but silent, Vows is definitely my favorite of the hideaway saga. More than a good read...
