Product Description

The VOX JamVOX Computer Guitar Interface System is an integrated monitor and software system that extracts the guitar from any MP3 and plugs you into the mix of their favorite bands. JamVOX will transform your room into the legendary stage or recording studio you've dreamed of! JamVOX is the result of a collaboration between VOX Amplification guitar amplification and modeling engineers and a team of KORG electronic musical instrument and PC software developers. A simple three-step operation allows anyone to play the guitar in their favorite song by their favorite band. Numerous famous guitar amps and effects that perfectly simulate the sound of your guitar heroes are included in the software. The JamVOX software provides 19 types of amp model that range from classic vintage amps such as the AC30, rare boutique amps, and modern high-gain amps. These amp models use Virtual Valve Reactor technology that perfectly simulates every aspect of the original guitar amplifiers, right down to the response of the power amp circuit, differences in class A or B operation, type of vacuum tube, and negative feedback circuit. There are also 12 cabinet models to go with the amp models. Even the speakers and cabinet construction of the original units have been painstakingly modeled, perfectly replicating their distinctive spatial and tonal character. The JamVOX Monitor is a powered monitor speaker with a built-in USB audio interface. There's no need for complicated connections or technical knowledge of computer music. Simply connect a single USB cable to your computer, and you can start playing your guitar right away. The cabinet contains two 3-inch full-range speakers, and while delivering plenty of power and high-quality sound, is a compact size that will be right at home on your desktop. There's also a mic input, so you can record your own vocal or enjoy a session together with a vocalist. Making the system even more versatile, the monitor also functions as a USB audio interface that is compatible with ASIO/CoreAudio software, and can also be used as a monitor speaker for your computer.

I bought this thinking it would be a great way to jam privately in my barracks room without taking up all my space with pedals, effects, amps, and the like. I exceeded my expectations and now is the only way I will play!

---AMP--- The amp itself is quite small, about the size of a small shoebox for kids shoes. It power is something that rivals my more expensive amp that i spent about twice the money on. It works as a speaker for your computer that is very clear and can more than triple your PC/ laptop volume. The plugin for guitar cable is very sturdy and hold very tight so you can play without worry of the cable moving around or slipping out. you can play both bass guitar and standard guitar since it has its own built in sounds card and the software effects apply to both. The power cable for the amp is about 4 feet long and i find it to not be long enough at times but it is a very basic usb power cable and can be found at any electronics store for cheap if you need a longer one.

---SOFTWARE--- The software is very easy to install and has updates and patches available for any system (mac, xp, vista both 32 an 64 bit now) the website has many helpful tips to get the best performance out of even the most basic old laptop. The software is so easy to use, i figured it out without even cracking the book. I fiddled with settings and watched a quick 10 minute video on youtube to learn a few more details and i was using it like a pro. There are many presets to accommodate popular songs and some that are great fun to just play and see how they sound playing your favorite songs. It's a simple drag and drop to add effects, and you double click on any effect/amp/etc. to chose from all VOX products. You WILL be able to get the correct sound of ANY song you desire with this software!

Absolutely amazing; honestly this pretty much sums up my thoughts on this product. My second favorite piece of gear right behind my best

I'll start by giving a brief product overview through my experience with the unit, a little bit more information than is in the description. The VOX jamVox is quite possibly the ultimate computer accessory for guitarists. The contents of the box include an installation manual, an installation CD, two CD's of backing tracks from Hal Leonard, a USB cable, and the JamVOX speaker unit. One bit of minor disappointment was that there was no printed user's manual; however, I found the digital copy on the installation CD. Unfortunately almost no software OEMs include printed manuals of any use any more, so no worse than other software/hardware units. I immediately installed the jamVOX software as directed on the installation CD itself and in the included installation manual. Installation was quick, and I heeded the warning on the disc (disc cover and the software on the screen) not to connect the jamVOX until the software had been installed. After that I connected the unit as directed and proceeded to start the JamVOX software as directed. This is the second, and thankfully, last bit of disappointment I experienced with the unit. The software would not start, stating that the correct driver did not install correctly (I am using 64bit Win Vista). So I searched for this problem online, and saw others had similar issues but I didn't find a consensus fix. I did however find that the official VOX product website had updated software (ver 1.51 versus the ver 1.0 software on the disc). Once I downloaded and installed the updated software, the program started right up.

I got this product about a week ago, and was worried about all the reviews mentioning mislabeled products shipping from Sam Ash.
When I purchased this, it was listed as *sold by* and *shipping from* Amazon.
Sam Ash had (and may still) be associating this product's ID with a VOX foot pedal instead of the JamVOX.

I haven't had enough time with this yet but hope to update this review.

For now I'll just say that the unit is small enough to store easily under a bed or behind a desk, and I'm very impressed with the preset sound modeling. "Eruption" sounds dead-on. The models are good enough to immediately inspire playing in different genres without a lot of thought. And the drum loops included actually sound pretty good as well.
My first test with extracting the guitar track from an mp3 yielded a very muted but still present guitar track but I think this is something that might take some learning to tweak, depend on the recording quality and mix, etc. of the song.

My bottom line is that I can plug this into a computer quickly, and play with or without headphones and really have fun again. I'm in a tiny apartment and I can't drag all my gear out of the back of the closet, set it all up and play (at near zero volume). That's a huge bummer when you just want to pick up and play.

Note: This may draw more power when plugged into a laptop, make sure to keep an eye on the battery or plug it in; you can't use the amp without it. If your battery runs out, you're done playing.
