5.0 out of 5 stars HMHB and their importance, April 26, 2000
By
This review is from: Voyage to the Bottom of the Road (Audio CD)
Half man half biscuit provide the listener with an incisive and satirical overview of modern pop and rock culture. This perspective comes not from AA Gill or Stephen Wells but from a group of blokes who are as ordinary as you and I,gifted with a modicum of musical talent. Lyrically, HMHB posess a wit most TV critics and music Journo's would die for and it is this remarkably astute and refreshingly cynical approach to modern music culture that makes HMHB everlasting. Enticingly obscure references to (mainly) sporting characters and rock groups create intrigue and a desire for greater understanding, all of which are part of the wind-up. This band are THE most important reminder to the "muso" musical world that somebody is watching. Their following is legendary and they simply don't suck up to it. Their dignity is exactly how a bands should be and each and every recording is a discovery for the new listener. If one was to apply the same wit and assertion upon HMHB the band would laugh their socks off with their hands up. They are the finest agit-popsters that ever existed and if you get it your perspective will never be the same!

4.0 out of 5 stars woo!, June 2, 2004

This review is from: Voyage to the Bottom of the Road (Audio CD)
This at first listen is not the most impressive album in their collection but it wears on you after 2 or 3 listens. Once you realize their critique this album is not only straight forward but intelligent. "Bad Review" sets the tone and then from there on out the music is not only almost a sing along but at the same time comprhensive. You'll scream "I get It," while enjoying the music!
