The second Great Edition of the Voyage Comic-Book Archive, March 20, 2010
This review is from: Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea: The Complete Series Volume 2 (Hardcover)
This is the second beautiful hard-covered archive edition of the comic books based on the "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" tv series published by Gold Key comics in the 1960s. Like the great 1st. edition, it features the beautiful painted covers of each book and the absolutely terrific artwork featured in each story. As a bonus, there is a three page forward featuring a history of Irwin Allen and the Voyage film and tv series. I enjoyed this greatly, although there is one blatant error. The writer indicates that after his tv series ended, Irwin Allen produced such successful motion pictures as "The Poseidon Adventure," "The Towering Inferno" and "Earthquake." This is an error, Irwin did not produce or have anything to do with "Earthquake." As a matter of fact, his classic "The Towering Inferno" was released a month later than "Earthquake" in the movies. The back section of the book features several pages of beautiful color and black and white publicity shots from the Voyage tv series,(several of which I'd never seen before,) as well as several pages of classic Voyage memorabilia (several of which I'm happy to say I own.)
As with the first Voyage archive, if you loved the "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" tv series and enjoyed it when it was originally on, you will love this book. And if you have just discovered this classic series in recent years and want a great relic of the comic-book published while this series was still running on ABC, you should get this book. As a matter of fact, Amazon is giving a nice price on this. I reserved my copies of Volume 1 and 2 months ago at the comic book store I patronise in Manhattan and, believe me, I paid a lot more.
