5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story of rugged survival, April 29, 2007

This review is from: The Voyage of the Discovery: Scott's First Antarctic Expedition, 1901-1904 (Volume II) (Hardcover)
Scott writes candidly about the day to day adventures of his crew. Anyone interested in polar exploration and outdoor survival would like this tale about making maps, measuring magnetic fields with theodolites, recording scientific data with "aneriods" and "elecrometers", and using outdoor gearnad tents made of gaberdine canvas, sleeping bags for three made of reindeer skins, and shoes that looked like something Santa's elves would wear - nothing like REI offers to today's travelers. The descriptions of clothing and tents alone is a fascinating read. Scott presented an enjoyable, factual narrative of the day to day adventures of the likes none of us would even think about doing!
