This review is from: Voyage to the Heart of Matter: The ATLAS Experiment at CERN (Pop-Up Books (Papadakis)) (Hardcover)
The Large Hadron Collider(LHC)is a particle accelerator located near Geneva, Switzerland, constructed by CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research.) An international team of physicists is using it to study subatomic particles, and their research will expand our understanding of both the subatomic world and of the Universe itself. This intricately-constructed pop-up book (paper engineering by Anton Radevsky)should help in understanding the experiments that are being conducted in a facility that is off-limits to the general public. Going through the book, one even has to do some of the construction using the paper components, and this helps in understanding the actual creating of the atom smasher. This is a pop-up book for learning and study. The subject is so complex that I know I will go back to the book many times before I feel even remotely informed, but Sarah Roberts, the Project Coordinator, has done such a good job on the manner of presentation that I know I'll eventually reach my goal.
