From School Library Journal
Grade 4-8-- This volume approaches its subject more as history than as biography. Chapters are limited to two-page spreads, generously illustrated. Each chapter deals with some aspect of Magellan's voyage, starting with exploration in general and ending with the specific effects of his travels. There is space devoted to details of life on a ship of that time, including an excellent cross-section of a ship and the titles and duties of the crew. Navigation, astronomy, food, and the dangers of such a trip are all discussed before the actual voyage is described. A welcome addition where interest and assignments on explorers are heavy. --Deirdre R. Murray, Pine Road School, Huntingdon Valley, Pa.
