4.0 out of 5 stars Great idea for a fiction story could have been edited better, October 2, 2001
By
Lee Pederson (Swartz Creek, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Voyage to Olympus (Paperback)
The story was interesting and informative. If you have never been on a submarine; you will be able to pilot one when you have finished reading. The characters are colorful and well described. I almost felt as though I lived the story with them. My only negative thought is of the mental editing that was reqiured to complete the story. Mispellings, incorrect word use, no word at all to assist in the thought that was being conveyed. Just outright bad editing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book - A "must read" book for any submariner, February 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Voyage to Olympus (Paperback)
I was in the submarine service for 22 years in Polaris and fast attack submarines. This book of John's is excellent to say the least. His writing about a submarine is the best fiction book on this subject I have ever read for a short novel. Think that he should continue to wirte these kinds of books, and possibly,a follow-up to this book. I am now at COMSUBLANT Headquarters and will pass this book around to the Admiral, Chief of Staff, and other members of the "higher up" personnel on the Staff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-crafted, imaginative and suspenseful to the very end., April 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Voyage to Olympus (Paperback)
"Voyage to Olympus" is a work of art, consisting of history, modern technology, mythology, and fantasy. It held my interest until the very end. The format was easy to read, since it contained shorter chapters. The naval characters are true to any military branch; macho, inventive, coffee junkies. But when they fall, they fall hard, especillay for the ancient Greek maidens they encounter in 500 BC after their nuclear sub disappears into the Bermuda Triangle and re-surfaces in Ancient Greece. We're given a true tapestry of what it was like 2500 years ago in a land that gave us Socrates, Plato, and Greek mythology. Through this vivid portrayal, we are kept in suspense as to whether or not the men of the USS Daniel Webster can ever return home. The plot twist was certainly an element of surprise.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mystery, suspense, romance, and has a love of history. John and I went to school together and I'm really proud of him. Good Luck with your second novel, John.
