Book Description

October 1, 2011

By relating one man’s amazing tale of triumph over death on multiple occasions, this book brings a fresh perspective to near death experience literature. David Bennett, once a brash young commercial diver whose personal philosophy was “cut your way through life to survive,” was caught in a violent storm off the California coast one night where he drowned. While technically “dead,” he met beings of light, relived his life, and peeked into his future, resulting in a complete paradigm shift for him. Later, he discovered he had stage IV lung and bone cancer—so advanced that his spine collapsed. Miraculously, he survived once again, and this second close call taught him even more about living, loving, and how to find purpose in his life. Voyage of Purpose brings readers right into the heart of the near-death experience, including the sensations of dying, being surrounded by the light, and meeting the Soul Family. Part memoir and part guide for achieving spiritual growth, this book shows how to integrate the most traumatic of incidents into one’s spiritual path in order to live a more meaningful life.

"Everyone is on a spiritual journey but David Bennett is on the roller coaster ride of a journey and and with Spirit. Totally engaging in candor and truth, totally inspiring in the outcomes of the struggles. Voyage of Purpose is the real deal." —Howard Storm, author, My Descent into Death: A Second Chance at Life

"A raw and honest travelogue of a man. . . . What he went through is the stuff of miracles; what he learned along the way is a message for all of us - about spirituality, purpose, and the reality of unconditional love." —P.M.H. Atwater, LHD, author, Near-Death Experiences: The Rest of the Story

"Exceptionally beautiful and well-written . . . David's experience is dramatic, as is his cure from what should have been a fatal cancer. . . . [Voyage of Purpose] exudes an abundance of wisdom." —Dr. Jeffrey Long, radiation oncologist and nationally recognized expert

"A remarkable account of Bennett's journey to find meaning in repeated brushes with death. . . . 5.0 out of 5 stars Wonder of Wonders October 23, 2011
By Anemone
Format:Paperback
"Wonder of wonder, miracle of miracles, God took an engineer by the hand..." Well with apologies to Fiddler on the Roof, the joy of the tailor Motel Kamzoil infuses David & Cindy Bennett's book, Voyage of Purpose. David Bennett has journeyed into the Light and returned with messages of hope for all of us: There is life after death. The power of eternity forms and informs our earthly existence. The worst of diseases can be healed. Learning to be open hearted and loving is a life long journey of joy.

I knew most of Bennett's story before I read the book. I found it as enthralling as it was the first time I heard it. My favorite part is about the scent of roses from a holy relic, something I would discount if anyone else told me. This book erases the line between possible and impossible. It gives the reader's faith a booster shot. I highly recommend Voyage of Purpose as an antidote to the doom and gloom of current events. I'm giving it as a gift to my entire list of people for Yule so they can understand miracles still happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not the type, but I loved this book anyway March 18, 2012
Format:Paperback
I'm not the type of person who reads spiritual materials. I'm skeptical by nature, and tend to consider this sort of thing silly. However, something got into me and I really wanted to read VoP. Glad I did, and after reading it, I wonder if it is part of a journey of my own. I like how David describes his experiences so personally, his fears, growth over time, and his impressions of what he saw when he almost died that day. I can't add a lot to the other reviews here, except to say that even folks who don't like such things might still like this book if you go into it with an open mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Gem October 19, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Voyage of Purpose is a powerful book, and truly a treasure. I savored each and every word of this gem of a book. It took me through so many emotions, tears and smiles, what an amazing journey! This will be like a door opening for many, especially experiencers, to come "out of the closet" and seek others for discussion and support on their own spiritual journeys. Dave and Cindy will probably never know how many people will be positively affected by their words. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I'm sure many honest, heartfelt conversations will be taking place as book clubs discover this thought provoking work. Thank you, Dave and Cindy, and many blessings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Journey October 28, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read the first half of Voyage of Purpose on an overseas flight...and finished it on the way home. In between, I was moved, uplifted and supported by your powerful book! Your stories of the love and support we have available to us confirmed my deepest knowing, and your excellent suggestions for incorporating them into my life have already produced shifts in my experiences.

May your teachings spread far and wide. They go straight to the heart in a most profound way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A voyage worth taking October 25, 2011
Format:Paperback
David and Cindy Bennett's book Voyage of Purpose is a spiritual tour de force, filled with the heart-wrenching challenges of David's life and his struggle to find meaning and peace. He drowned in the Pacific's cold and violent waters, and in his ensuing near-death experience he met his guides, underwent a life review, and was given knowledge and unconditional love. The hard edges of his macho personality softened. He realized that life was not a battle to be won, but a jewel to be treasured. Afterwards, using his gifts of acceptance, tolerance, and truth as touchstones for living, he went deeper on a sacred journey, where he found his connection to the Infinite still intact. Here David found the strength and courage to survive the unthinkable, stage four lung and bone cancer, a collapsed spine, and, later, neck. Sprinkled throughout with little-known wisdom from the ages, this book will touch and teach you, make you laugh and cry, with its simple yet profound message. The purpose of our own voyages is to learn how to always hear Spirit's voice and see its signs and also to stay in humility and thankfulness, despite outward circumstances. Using gratitude and prayer, visualization and trust, David followed his inner compass and mastered his healing voyage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done October 19, 2011
By Richard
Format:Paperback
Dave has written an incredible book here. The day to day courage, and the wisdom, required to live with an open heart is exceptional. Not everyone is willing to do so. Dave relates the incidents which propelled him on this path, and the work of maintaining it, in clear, simple, moving language. From that first talk on Bell Rock in Sedona to the publishing of this book, Dave has been devoted to sharing the love he experienced in the Light. Many have benefited from his efforts and I'm sure, through this book, there will be many more.

5.0 out of 5 stars On Voyage of Purpose October 12, 2011

You did an effective job of this and it is so necessary. It puts all in simple terms and does a fine task of addressing any possible
fears of dying. In fact, you have been able to show the absolute beauty that I personally found difficult to articulate in describing my own NDE. Many thanks to you and Cindy for this excellent book. Marie Lake

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gift to All Who Read It September 23, 2011
Format:Paperback
However you read this book, it is a powerful experience. At the most basic, mundane level, it is an incredible story of the triumph of the human spirit over the most devastating challenges life can throw at us. Abandonment, abuse, drowning and physical death, cancer and the overwhelming pain of a collapsed spine - David Bennett overcame them all. The story, however, is in what they taught him and what he, as a result, was able to learn about the real essence of spirit - his own and the greater whole of which we are all a part - and how we are never alone. Through his near death experience and the sensitivity that brought on, David became a spiritual teacher of the highest calling, and this book is a gift to all who read it.
