A Discovery and its Rediscovery,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Voyage of Semen Dezhnev, 1648: Bering's Precursor - With Selected Documents (Second Series) (Hardcover)
Dezhnev was the first European to sail through the Bering Strait. His exploit was forgotten for nearly a century until documents were found in the Yakutsk archives. This Haklyut Society volume has translations of the relevant documents and a discussion of their interpretion. Those not directly interested in Dezhnev can read this as a good example of how historians reconstruct what really happened from incomplete documentation.
