A fantastic exploration of Khalife's life and music
This documentary examines Marcel Khalife's music and the contexts in which it has been created and enjoyed. Each song is accompanied by commentary from poets, scholars, and other experts on both Khalife and Lebanon. The musical performances are enchanting, and the commentary is riveting. Disappointed
Marcel Khalife is one of the most interesting singer and Oud players in the Arab world. I knew him more than 15 years ago and I was listening to his songs since secondary school. He's just great. Unfortunately, I'm profoundly disappointed with this DVD. I thought that I will have a lot of his songs he sung all over the world, but I was surprised to see that all...

Marcel Khalife is one of the most interesting singer and Oud players in the Arab world. I knew him more than 15 years ago and I was listening to his songs since secondary school. He's just great.Unfortunately, I'm profoundly disappointed with this DVD. I thought that I will have a lot of his songs he sung all over the world, but I was surprised to see that all the movie is about his suffer and hard live, and all songs are truncated, so I did not enjoy as it should this DVD. This documentary examines Marcel Khalife's music and the contexts in which it has been created and enjoyed. Each song is accompanied by commentary from poets, scholars, and other experts on both Khalife and Lebanon. The musical performances are enchanting, and the commentary is riveting.My only real complaint is that the aspect ratio of the DVD is not consistent. Some scenes are shot in 4:3, and others in 16:9. However, that isn't enough to truly mar this beautiful film. |
