Biography

DAVID SANBORN – ONLY EVERYTHING BIO

“Among the great saxophonists of the past four decades,” says one Rolling Stone writer, “David Sanborn has earned an identity all his own. He’s jazz, he’s funk, he’s soul, he’s pop, he’s blues, he’s rock. Most remarkably, he excels in each of these genres with a voice that is both forceful and tender, sensuous and subtle.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius, October 31, 2005
This review is from: Voyeur (Audio CD)
I am OBSSESSED with this album!
Being a bass player, I feel that this is easily Marcus' best album that he ever did with Sanborn, the music is just so pure, soulful, and just damn funky. I get chills down my spine everytime I listen to it.

3 words baby..."RUN FOR COVER"!!!!

That's how long i've owned this amazing CD, but i have played it 14 times...i love everything about it. and to agree to disagree, i think "Wake Me" is the funkiest thing on the CD. I love all 7 tunes and wish that it was more along the lines of 50 minutes and 11 tunes, but who am i to mess with genius. David is was and will always be the inventor of soulful smooth jazz!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some of Sanborn's best!, July 22, 2004

After owning the LP, then cassette, I finally bought this on CD. This is some great music from great musicians: Sanborn, Marcus Miller, Steve Gadd, Hiram Bullock, et al.

Bad news first: "Wake Me When It Over" has not aged well. This one song is the only dated music on the record, however. Also, at a total playing time of 29:45, you're not exactly getting the most bang for your buck.

Now the good news: "All I Need is You" could be the steamiest, sexist, smoothest piece of music ever recorded. EVER! This track alone is worth the price of the CD.

I'll program my CD player to skip track 3 and listen to these smooth tones often. I would love to give this five stars, but with 50 minutes of room left on the CD, maybe they should have put As We Speak on the same CD for a world-class 2-for-1 (...)
