My son was given the Vtech Crazy Legs Bug as a Christmas gift and we have been disappointed (and annoyed) from the first moment it arrived. First of all, the toy turned on in shipping - the "on - off" level is really loose - so the box was singing when we got it home. It really hasn't stopped since. You only have to THINK about this toy and it starts singing the most...

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite Toy, September 13, 2005

I had bought this toy for my son when he was 10 months old. He figured out immediately (after watching me a few times) how to pull the bug around on the floor. The toy rolls very easily on the ground, even on high pile carpets. When you set it to music mode and just pull it... the little legs clack around and it plays a TON of fun songs. He LOVEs to do this. over, and over and over again. WHen he comes home from daycare this is one of the first toys he plays with. The toy is very durable, as it has also been carried (and dropped), drug up and down the steps, and pulled outside. The music is not too loud, but it's loud enough that he still can hear it. Each of the shapes, have a different number and type of bug on it. This toy has several different learning modes, for counting, follow the leader, ABC's, music, teaches different kinds of bugs, etc. RIght now, he's almost a year, he really just enjoys the lights and music.. and the satisfaction that he can pull a toy along all by himself, just like his mom!

This review is from: Vtech - Crazy Legs Learning Bugs (Toy)
My son was given the Vtech Crazy Legs Bug as a Christmas gift and we have been disappointed (and annoyed) from the first moment it arrived. First of all, the toy turned on in shipping - the "on - off" level is really loose - so the box was singing when we got it home. It really hasn't stopped since. You only have to THINK about this toy and it starts singing the most annoying song (and the only song?) about sorting shapes. The legs have shapes on then that are supposed to attach to the matching shaped lights - which is a good idea - but the execution was no good. It's hard for me to insert the shapes let alone my 11 month old - plus the shapes can only connect on one side where there are magnets. The largest light on the toy is on the top of the bug - naturally you'd think that you can touch it at will to maybe make the bug sing or something but you'd be wrong - when you touch the light (which is the only one my son is really all that interested in messing with) the bug says "uh oh" and then laughs like they've done something wrong. It's semi-condesending.
I appreciate the thought and the gift but I wanted to post a comment so others would know before hand to save their money and buy something else.

2.0 out of 5 stars Annoying and Frustrating - not a good cause and effect toy, January 15, 2006
By

This review is from: Vtech - Crazy Legs Learning Bugs (Toy)
I bought this toy a few days ago for my one year old son and just finished repackaging it to return it to the store. We gave it a good try for a few days (I'd rather keep a toy that atleast has some potential than return it), but it was just too frustrating.

It seems they were trying to do too much with this toy. Is it a pull toy, cause/effect toy, or a shape sorter? Well it doesn't do any of those things well. It doesn't roll well, the buttons are hard to push (probably in part because it is on wheels, but also even if you push the buttons all the way, it may or may not activate it), and the shapes come out when the wheels roll or the top button is pushed - accompanied by an annoying "WHOOPS!". Part of the programming, but the "WHOOPS" & "shape-sorter" song is too frequent, seemingly random (you can't cut off the song with the push of a button) and very annoying. I thought maybe my son just needs to be a little older (he loves cause & effect devices & toys (remote controls, push button phones, dvd player, etc), but the "effect" part of this toy is way too inconsistent. I think the most enjoyment he got from this toy was picking it up and tossing it.

I gave this toy two stars for the cute design & good quality - it's very solid & well made, but it is too annoying & I think you're better off buying some other toy(s) instead for your little one.

This toy is actually really cool. It's obvious to me that the bad reviews are either for a different toy or this toy has been updated. Many reviews talk about a "main star button" that says uh-oh when you press it, but this toy doesn't have any such button. Many people also complain about it having one repetitive song, but this toy has numerous fun songs. The songs even speed up when the toy is being pushed or pulled along the ground. The shapes fit easily into the slots and if you press the bug on top they all pop-out with appropriate sound effects. I've seen complaints that the pull-string is missing... I read the manual and found mine in the battery compartment.

My daughter got this among many other gifts for her 1st Birthday and it is her favorite toy. All of the other young kids at the party wanted a turn. Trust me, for the price you can't go wrong. Your child will love it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not that great, July 7, 2008

This toy is cute looking but the sounds and interaction are annoying. The little intro song is a little creepy sounding and not fully understandable, and you have to listen to the entire thing before you can play with the toy. The shapes are difficult to "sort" onto the body of the toy as well, because they have to lock into place, and the strings attached are a little tight. In addition, the pull string is a little long which may scare some parents away.

I hate this thing. My mother bought it at a yardsale; whatever she paid, it was more than this is worth. The "Sort, Sort, Sort My Shapes" song plays at every chance it gets, which is usually when my kiddo has lost interest in it. He likes to pull it around by the string and hit the center button, which sets off an endless chorus of "Whoops! Sort, sort..." He has no interest in the shape buttons or dangling shapes (which don't work unless you put them in with the correct side facing in), and is too young for the "Follow Me" and other activites.

I'd suggest gifting it to your worst enemy or using it as a wrecking ball -- after less than an hour, you'll want to chuck it through the nearest window.

1.0 out of 5 stars The winner in my house for the WORST TOY EVER, February 2, 2010

Honestly, this is a TERRIBLE toy. I can't even give it away...I wouldn't want to frustrate anyone else.

The shapes don't pop in well. The toy sings the same song over and over again, and for no apparent reason (as others have mentioned). The song lyrics are "sort sort sort my shapes" but I swear it sounds like "eat eat eat my shorts". I had no idea what the thing was saying. The voices are horrible. The sounds are horrible. The music is horrible.

Did I say this toy is horrible? No, I think I said this toy is terrible. Well, it's horrible too!

I wish I would have read the reviews for this toy before I bought it. It was an impulse buy from a local store. Anyway, I agree with what some folks have been saying, it's very annoying. It only has 1 song "sort, sort, sort my shapes..." I never really gave much thought to the "whoops!" part when the top button is pushed but now that I think about it, it is a little harsh telling a baby "whoops!" for doing something that he's supposed to do. But then again, he's only only 6 months old and I really don't think he cares what it says, just that it's a funny voice. It is kinda cute, I like the bright colors, but I do wish it had the other three (red, orange and purple.) I noticed the string is a hazzard. My son puts everything in his mouth and he could actually swallow the string (like a spaghetti noodle)which wouldn't be good. I had to put it back in the battery box for now. It does seem durable and with as much as he has drooled on it, it still works. Overall, I would spend the money on something else. I'm disapointed because Vtech usually has better toys than this.

I actually had to read the instructions to understand what this toy was doing (and I have 2 college degrees). What it does is asks the child to perform a task, if they perform it correctly it claps... if not it says "oops". When we took it out of the box to play with it, all it was doing was saying "oops" to everything we did. What I realized, after reading about it, is that when it "sleeps" it still keeps the same task. So, if your child hasn't played with it in a long time, it still wants them to do the task it did last time they played with it. It confused and frustrated my daughter. We are returning it tomorrow!
