a mellower side of Serge,
This review is from: Vu De L'Exterieur (Audio CD)
Ok after all the talk these days of the legendary weirdness of Serge Gainsbourg it's nice to kick back and listen to this great little record... This is definatly Serge's most mellow and laid back offering... the sound is a very pleasant mixture of mellow guitars , electric pianos and simple (but funky) beats... over which the always sauve and soothing Serge drops his smooth lyrical flow. The band is the legendary crack Brittish Dewolfe studio group of Alan Hawkshaw and Alan Parker (who also worked on L'homme a Tette de Chou) so everything is impecably played and with the requisite amount of tweaked funkiness... just on a more mellow style... needless to say its still a very very satisfying and diggable spin...

I can't believe no one has reviewed this yet?? For those new to,and interested in hearing Serge Gainsbourg, may be somewhat intimidated by the breadth of his back-catalog,let me offer this: He had a long and varied career, like many musicians, with many different "stages".This release, along with "Historie Melody Nelson",are in my opinion his two MASTERPIECES and THE place to start your maiden voyage into Serge's musical world. They are both short, but its all about quality not quantity.
