Great Book!, June 24, 2009
This review is from: Vue 7: Beyond the Basics (Paperback)
This is a GREAT book! I started working with Vue about a month ago. I watched a lot of Ami and Vladimir Chopine's free online videos [...] and I completed their book, "Vue from the Ground Up" (which I also recommend). So, with a month of experience and a lot of determination to learn how to use Vue, I ordered this book and I'm very happy I did.
Here are some things I really like about "Vue Beyond the Basics."
1. I'm impressed with the author's ability to give clear step-by-step directions to create complicated scenes. Keep in mind that the author assumes that you have a beginning level of experience---that is why he recommends his first book, "Vue 6 Revealed," if you do not know the basics. Once again, I learned the basics from Ami and Vladmirir Chopine's book and website.
2. He clearly explains the reasons why you do certain steps! Without these explanations I would feel that all I'm doing is following directions without knowing why. Understanding WHY I'm changing settings helps me to really understand the program and enables me to use the skills when creating my own works.
3. The graphics are very good. There are plenty of photos of screen shots and they are in color. I'm one-third of the way through the book (page 134) and I haven't gotten lost yet!
4. His writing style is easy to read and he often uses just a bit of humor to make the writing personal and enjoyable.
I have been in education for 25-years. I am truly impressed with the author's ability to teach this software. There is no doubt in my mind that when I finish this book I will have a extremely good grasp on how to use Vue. I would have waited until I finished the book but it seemed a shame that a book this good didn't have a review written about it yet! If the next 200 pages turn out to be a disappointment, not only will I be shocked and humbled, but I will post it as well.
Thank you, Mr. Schrand. I did order your "Vue 6 Revealed" as a backup in case there was material I didn't understand in this book. I must say that the graphics and layout in "Vue 7: Beyond the Basics" are a great improvement. And, I loved making the log object. I can't wait to use it in my own work--it actually looks very nice!

A very good Vue book., November 11, 2009
This review is from: Vue 7: Beyond the Basics (Paperback)
I am a Vue hobbyist for about 4 years now, and there is always more to learn. This is the second great book to come along in a short time (the other being Vue 7 from the Ground Up). Very good graphics, very clear explanations.
