Vulture View has wonderful illustrations showing the life of a vulture - and and what they eat - eww! There are books about many birds, but not many about this beautiful flyer. And, there are not too many books that help me teach about the letter "V" to my kindergartners.

Great book for vulture lovers,

I love vultures and when I saw this book as at a used book sale, I had to have it for my granddaughters and of course myself.
The book is full of beautiful illustrations and simple dialogue that clearly explains a turkey vulture's life (turkey vultures have red heads). There are also opportunities to talk with your child about science, nature, and birds as well as the vulture. The book opens with the sun rising and the air warming as the vulture takes off to glide on the warming air. The words are simple and often rhyme. My granddaughters actually liked the book and enjoy talking about nature and its cycles while trying to understand why this species of bird eats dead animals.

Stunning cut-paper collage fills each page with color and texture. A vulture flies, "Wings stretch wide to catch a ride on warming air. Going where?" The reader is asked to think about what vultures eat, "that snake over there? No, no. That fox over there? No, no...That stinky dead deer? Yes, yes!" The final two pages provide information about vultures, explaining how they use thermals to fly, where they nest and more. A web site is listed, and the reader learns that there are five festivals that "celebrate Turkey Vultures." Pair this book with Jonathan London's excellent book, Condor's Egg (Chronicle Books, 1994).

Lovely and thoughtful book!,

Who knew that someone was going to write such a lovely and thoughtful book about vultures for the 3 to 5 crowd. Fantastic book, the illustrations are great, as is the text. Having a biology degree I very much appreciate its accuracy:) Very glad we picked it up!
