4.0 out of 5 stars The Horn of Africa
So I got my vuvuzela in the mail today. I ended up playing it the entire WC match, and it just made the experience even better.

A lot of people seem to think that there is a reed or other noise maker in the horn. However, the (in)famous sound is made by buzzing your lips. This horn is not missing any parts. As mentioned in the description, the horn comes in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Two-piece Horn!!!
Wanted to point out that this is a two piece horn and is cut in half at about the center. If you zoom-in on the picture you can see the seam. We didn't expect this. We suppose that it's easier to transport in a collapsed state (cheaper to ship too) but were expecting a one piece horn. It would have been nice to have stated this in the description.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Horn of Africa, July 6, 2010

So I got my vuvuzela in the mail today. I ended up playing it the entire WC match, and it just made the experience even better.

A lot of people seem to think that there is a reed or other noise maker in the horn. However, the (in)famous sound is made by buzzing your lips. This horn is not missing any parts. As mentioned in the description, the horn comes in two parts. Mine came pre-assembled, so all I had to do was extend the inner piece. I actually prefer the horn in two pieces, so that it is easier to transport. As far as I can tell, this does not hinder the sound. Oh, and the plastic is sturdy enough for me.

I am glad I made the purchase, and I look forward to being "that vuvuzela guy" at every sporting event I go to from now on.

2.0 out of 5 stars It gets the job done, but is a very cheap piece of plastic!, June 23, 2010

This comes via USPS in two equal length pieces which have to be assembled. I notice that some reviewers were not able to assemble the two pieces. The correct way to do this is to slide the thinner piece through the horn's wide mouth and push it all the way through to the other end, until it won't go any further. Then it sits quite stable.
Blowing it is the next thing to get used to. There is no vibrating reed, or sharp edge and so this is not like blowing a whistle. The inverse nozzle in the tube acts as the excitation source, and you have to blow hard to get some sound. I clocked 120 dB (nearfield SPL). The sound is not as unpleasant as I thought it may be, but it isn't great either. If you keep a music playing speakerphone near the mouth of the horn, you may enjoy the acoustic boost from the horn. It is a good demo of the horn's role in acoustic radiation.

The plastic quality, look and feel is as bad as it gets, and I would have preferred to pay no more than $2 for it. The manufacturing cost I would estimate is 10 cents or less.

1.0 out of 5 stars Non existant customer service, July 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered 4 green vuvuzela's on 6/23/10 and was told that delivery would be on 6/28/10. The order arrived on June 30, 2010 and instead of 4 green horns I was sent 2 orange horns. I had planned to give them to my grandchildren as a way of celebrating during the World Cup playoffs and in their team colors. Not 4 horns but 2. I checked my credit card and I have paid for 4 horns and the two emails I have sent to the company have not been answered. Basic customer service would be a reply and apology and shipment of the two missing horns. So far nothing.

I purchached the Vuvuzela and it was delivered damaged. I contacted the company and they were friendly and kind and advised that the product should have come in two peices that you can put together. I then advised that it came in 3 pieces and would not work when I tried to use it. They person stated that I will resend one to you, but, I never recieved the second one. I don't even want it anymore as the world cup is over and they can keep the lousy $6.

My vuvuzela contradicts many reviews that are here. Mine was not cut in half. Mine was collapsable. Mine was made with very sturdy plastic. Also, it sounds just like stated; very loud without that much power. It's an earsore just as promised and I love it. It is perfect.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's pretty good., June 25, 2010

I'm sorry for anyone who were disapointed with their vuvuzela, but mines tuned out to be good, When I got it the two pieces were already assembled, and the only negative is that it doesn't make the exact sound as the ones in South Africa, but it DEFINITELY makes the same noise! I didn't read the reviews, so I'm one of the lucky one with a vuvuzela in a good condition according to negative reviews. And if the negative reviews are true, then don't bet on this vuvuzela, but for me, I'm happy with it!

4.5/5

1.0 out of 5 stars absolutely horrible, June 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Wow, did not expect what I received. First it took well over a week to deliver and when I got it it was bent and disfigured. Blew through it several different ways and the only sound it made sounded like a dying elephant, not a vuvuzela. I would return it, but it would probably cost the same amount to return, so it goes to the garbage. What a waste of money...

Came dented and smashed in. The two halves they sent didn't even belong together, they were cut from two different pieces! Don't buy!

The item we ordered from this company was definately not what we expected. The VuVuzela is not a REAL one..its a cheap plastic imitation...it makes no noise whatsoever. Description even states it makes a noise like an elephant and not a single sound comes out of it. It was cut in half to fit in the box..it doesnt come cut in half you can tell they cut it in half too..you cant even put it together. The bottom of this plastic imitation vuvuzela was all bent up from shipping. This is definately not worth the money and we are going to get a refund. DO NOT BUY ONE FROM THESE PEOPLE! Its like something you would buy at a dollar store...seriously...The only great thing was the shipping was fast! lol Only gave it one star because it wouldnt let pick zero.
