Vygotsky Made Simple,
By Thomas A. Chiola (Trenton, New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vygotsky in the Classroom: Mediated Literacy Instruction and Assessment (Paperback)
As a teacher, I have been looking for a book that puts theory into a real-life context for me. This book succeeded in doing just that. As a believer in constructivism, and children as active learners, this book provides me with a workbook format, one that I can apply to my second grade classroom. It gives me clear examples of how a teacher can take the theories of Vygotsky and place it in a context of many different topics on literacy learning and experiment with strategies and techniques offered up by its many contributirs. It is easy to understand and the glossary at the back of the book helps the reader to understand the terms used throughout the text. This book is an affirmation and a celebration for me as now I know that what I am doing as a teacher to foster real learning is working. I am growing into a reflective practitioner as a result of reading this book.
