So I bought these shears because I was tired of the cheap plastic ones we have had for literally 10 years. The last straw with the old pair was I was trying to cut a raw chicken leg and the shears fell apart. So I hit the internet hard and lucked up on these amazing looking beauties...or so I thought.

These shears are ascetically pleasing to behold and durable in construction. The major flaw is the come apart feature that is touted by the manufacturer for easy clean up. This little feature in essence is amazing accept when you are cutting something tough and the t-bolt adjusts and the shears fall part in use. I hid this fact from my spouse for months because of how much I paid for these. But in the end I had to admit I was suckered by their beauty.

The other irritating aspect is a rust issue that I could never get under control. I religiously hand wash with warm soapy water all my kitchen utensils that I care about i.e. knives etc.. But even when doing that, these shears managed to corrode.

Luckily the shears have a lifetime replacement warranty and I have since sent them in to the company for a replacement. When I spoke with the reps, they were not very interesting in the complaint. They just wanted to replace them as quickly as possible. I have not received the replacement yet but I will update if the second pair has the same issues.

UPDATE** March 2013

So I know its been a while since I wrote this review but I decided to contact the company about this product. Even after all these years they offered a full replacement at no cost. When i received the new item I had none of the issues I had with the previous pair. I guess they fixed this design flaw. So I would now recommend these to anyone interested in a quality pair of come apart scissors.

I bought a pair of these from Amazon, after having purchased another pair several years ago from a retail store. The ones I bought several years ago are still in great shape, working fine, and completely rust-free. But the second pair I bought less than two years ago started rusting almost immediately, under the same, normal use the first ones are subject to. I'm not sure what happened between my first purchase and this second pair--maybe Wusthof outsourced production of these to a worse factory? Started using lower-quality steel? Whatever it is, the quality of the newer pair is awful.

Then today, the pivot that holds the two parts together just fell off of the newer pair. That finally got me irked enough to package them up and ship them off to Wusthof to see if they stand by their lifetime warranty. I'll update this review when I hear back from them. But as it stands now, I can't recommend these, and although I have lots of other older Wusthof knives that have held up well, I would hesitate to buy another new Wusthof product.

UPDATE: Wusthof sent me a pair of replacement shears, quickly, with no hassle, and with no requirement that I pay extortionate shipping charges (like some other companies' replacement policies require). So I give them credit for good customer service and standing behind their product: something not every manufacturer does. Will see how the replacement holds up.

Very capable cutting, but relative to the much less expensive Wusthof shears with plastic handles, these are less comfortable, and appear more prone to corrosion.

Many people will say that they are too costly. I agree that the price is high, however, my opinion may put it into perspective. They are excellent, easy to use, easy to clean, have many cutting uses, and should never wear out. For scissor use, they are practical in just about every sense. For those who have arthritis or physical finger strength issues, the features even allow for opening small bottle screw tops (soft drink size and a bit larger like some medicine bottles). The ease of separating the halves for cleaning is also what makes these great. As advertised, they can be used for cutting just about anything from trimming flowers, kitchen food use and even for cutting paper. My wife uses them for everything. Me? Mostly guy stuff. Upon receiving mine, the first thing I did was separate the halves to feel the accuracy of adjustment. I did this due to reading some reviews complaining about that. Mine were perfect, however, had they not been, the adjustment is simple and requires no special knowledge. The second thing I did was cut several thicknesses of paper ranging from thin almost see-through thickness to construction paper. They cut easily and it was easy to maintain a straight line. They should last forever unless lost or unwisely used. Other complaints from reviews were regarding rust. I have not yet experienced that and kind of doubt that I will. Any stainless steel can rust if allowed to do so. I merely dry these after any wet use. Separating and washing in soapy water is easy and good to do when dirty. As with high quality cutlery, I do not let them dry on their own. The drip-dry method enhances oxidation (rust) and can affect the cutting edges the same as with any quality knife. Although pricey, there is something to be said for quality.Read more ›
