About the Author
Nagueyalti Warren is Senior Lecturer and Director for Undergraduate Studies in the Department of African American Studies at Emory University where she has previously served as assistant and associate dean of Emory College. A poet whose second book of poetry, Margaret Circa 1834-1858, won the 2008 Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Award and was nominated for the Georgia Writer s Author of the Year Award, Warren s latest manuscript, Braided Memory has won the Violet Haas Reed Award for Poetry. Also a Cave Canem fellow, her works have appeared in Gathering Ground, the ringing ear: Black Poets Lean South, Essence Magazine, Pluck, and Drumvoices Revue. Warren has edited the poetry anthology, Temba Tupu! (Walking Naked) Africana Women s Poetic Self-Portrait published by The Africa World Press, 2008, and co-edited Southern Mothers: Fact and Fictions, LSU Press 1999.
