Black people have lived in northeastern Pennsylvania longer than Susquehanna County has even existed. Unfortunately, many of the records no longer exist. In this book Debra Adleman has attempted to remedy this by recovering a portion of the past.
The information has been taken from census records, legal and personal documents, newspapers, and older residents' memories. Census records from 1800 to 1900 inclusive are printed at the end of the book, providing additional information for the researcher.
