It works, but not quiet.,
By Dusty Trails "still rockin' @55" (Payson AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WALL CLOCK WITH LIGHT SENSOR 12"
I'm a two week owner of this Chinese import. The clock mechanism is the same one you see at any craft store. One AA battery will last about 2 years in a temperate environment [opinion from my previous clocks]. It runs a tick-tock second hand. Desert heat will kill clock mechanism less than a year, I wouldn't expect long life from this clock in an outdoor setting. 3 AA batteries run 4 LED lights. I can't estimate battery life, I am hoping for a year, at 8 hours of illumination a night. LEDs should last 30 years. The light sensor for my clock comes on just after dusk, which is fine for me. The light from a computer screen at 6' is enough to shut it the green lights off, so it is very sensitive. It makes an excellent whole room night light for my game room/den. In short it is as advertised. What I didn't like: 1. It is not a silent clock. The tick-tock hand keeps me from staying asleep. If you can't take the ticking DON"T expect to use it in a sleep setting. 2. No customer service. I asked about the silent nature of this clock and got no reply. Took a chance and ordered. 3. The hour and minutes hands are difficult to discern at night. The slim, stylish hands become indistinct in the green light at 10 foot distance [60 y.o. eyes]

The best backlit wall clock I could find,

Back in the olden days (when i was growing up) wall clocks plugged in to the wall and they were lit so you could see them in the dark. I had been searching for such a backlit wall clock for months. I presume that these are hard to find because all clocks seem to be battery powered now and the light probably uses up the batteries too fast. This clock is backlit and is equiped with a sensor that turns the light on and off (sort of like a dimmer switch - it is not necessarily all the way ON or OFF). It works with one caveat - the room has to be almost pitch black before the sensor will turn on the light. Mine is in the kitchen and there is enough dim light coming from other sources that the light doesn't turn on. That said, because it has a light face with dark hands I can tell the time even when the kitchen is "dark" (unlike my old digital clock which was impossible to see). I also had to adjust the hands when the clock arrived because at 10:30 the hour hand was pointing at 10:45. This was accomplished by removing the clear front over and setting the hands correctly.

I've had this clock now for several weeks and it is great. Shines a nice green which allows the clock to be seen easily in the dark but is not so bright to light up the room. Perfect.

Auto light does not work too well,

The good news is that it's nice to have a lighted wall clock. Now I can tell the time even when it is dark. The bad news is that in the auto mode, the light does not come on unless it is completely dark. By completely dark, I mean that you cannot even have a night light on. I guess the light sensor is too sensitive and the sensitivity cannot be adjusted. Also, in the auto mode, the light is very dim. I leave the light in the "on" position and so it's on 24/7. I'm not sure how long the battery will last in this mode. I have the clock for a few days and the light is still going strong. When the battery dies, I will hook up a AC/DC adapter to it. It has a 4.5V DC input plug.

Light up Wall Clock,
By Juliet Spencer (NYC, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WALL CLOCK WITH LIGHT SENSOR 12"
This clock is a good size. The light is a soft green and does not keep me awake. My only problem with it is that it is not digital (which I already knew), and the hands are very thin. That makes it a little difficult to read. Also, the battery casing takes up a big black space in the middle of the clock, but that it unavoidable. I would buy this clock again and recommend it.

It's big and it ticks, which may be a problem for some people, but it has the nice, soft green glow in the picture and the room doesn't have to be pitch-black for the light to appear. A very good product for those who want to see the time clearly at night; no glasses needed if it's not too far away. It's not radio controlled but quartz clocks these days keep excellent time.

I purchased this clock as a present for my 85 year old mother so she could see the time during the night when she woke up. The fact that there is an option to only light during the night hours and that it is easy for her to read is a bonus. She loves it!

I have had this clock and when it gets dark in the room the clock glows in the dark. In the day time it is easy to see.

Too loud and bright,

We bought this clock for my boys room. We thought it would be great to have a bit of light and to be able to see the time. The light is too bright and the ticking is too loud. It is now stored away in our closet. A bit disappointed with it.

The clock is a nice size...not too big or small. It makes for a nice night lite in auto mode.In "ON" mode the light is TOO bright for a night lite...for me anyway. Though it might be better for those who do not see so well. The photo suggests an even green radial glow, but it is comming from 4 LEDs which create an "expanding cross" sorta glow. In auto mode, It is easlily veiwable in the dark WITH GLASSES(for me), if you wear them. The "auto mode" sensor was found by some to be overly sensitive (not comming when needed). They may have fixed that because the backlight comes on before the sun goes down.. no problem and a distant room light won't completely turn it off. Some complained about a ticking sound. There is NO ticking sound what so ever. There is a power input to replace the 3 batteries needed for the back lighting. Not sure where to get the correct power supply..would have been nicer if it came with the clock, for a couple more Bucks. Overall very happy..an "atomic clock" version/power supply would be the Bomb !!!
