5.0 out of 5 stars The true poetry of the common man..., July 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: THE WAYS WE TOUCH: POEMS (Illinois Poetry) (Hardcover)
When I heard Miller Williams read his poetry earlier this year, he started out his reading in a simple way, "Now, I'm going to tell you about people you know..." And this sums up Williams poetry perfectly. The Inaugral Poet's work is simple on the outset, so simple in fact that you might miss what's going on underneath. Because part of the magic of William's poetry is the underpinnings, the things he doesn't tell us, the things that are there anyway. And, as icing on the cake, we get to see a Master poet working, with an intense control of voice and diction, a careful attention of form. This is a work you won't forget very easily.
