Pro's and Con's,
By Dyers_Eve (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WCW Backstage Assault (Video Game)
Rather than wasting a lot of time and words, here's the pro's and con's of this game. The Pro's - Excellent FUN gameplay, EASY to perform moves, easy to perform finishers. The Commentary is funny and entertaining at times. Being able to customize your favorite wrestlers with whatever moves you like is great, want to see Sting, pull a jackhammer on someone, you can do that. the backstage areas and weapons are fun to use. The Con's - graphics could be way better, they're blocky and some wrestlers don't look very much like thier real life wrestlers. opponents get up, or kick out way too quick after performing a finishing move. Finishing moves aren't exact to thier wrestlers (since when is sting's finisher a sidewalk slam aka the bookend) The Scorpion Death Drop should have been much easier to perform, instead of a rear grapple to do it. EA should watch WCW and write it all down before the next WCW title comes out. The last problem i find is moving around is slow, unless your running. I really liked Mayhem, and this is better, they've got some great trademark moves in here, Nash putting his hands up, before he knees someone in the corner is great. keeping up with times though, it's too bad people like Raven, Randy Savage, and Gorgeous George aren't in this. ... Scott Hall is in this game, you have to beat him to use him. If you like WCW BUY THIS GAME, if your a WWF fan or play WWF games, give this one some time to get used to, the play control is very different.

I am a huge WCW fan and I am angry and sad because it doesn't come on any more. I love WCW Mayhem by Electronic Arts, and that was their first wrestling game, and this is their second , but it is something that you dig out of a litter box. I don't like this game because there are only about four weapons laying around and when you use a weapon about three times it turns into dust and that makes it impossible to win a first blood match (they're nearly impossible to win with weapons anyways). Also, the backstage areas that you have to wrestle in are smaller than the wrestling ring itself. There are only about two moves that you can do besides punching and kicking and you have to win a match, which is almost impossible, to unlock a new move. It is also very confusing to even start a match on this game. The graphics would look better if you cracked the television screen with a hammer. WCW Nitro is better than this game. Any wrestling game, even on Atari, if they have a wrestling game for it, is better than WCW Backstage Assault. The only thing this game is good for is to keep a fire burning for a couple of extra minutes.

Are the game producers that stupid!?,

When I got this game foy my birthday, I was excited because I had waited a long time. But the long time I waited was for nothing. I mean, come on! You can't even wrestle inside the ring and the gameplay is slow and unreal. Its like wrestling in slow motion! You can unlock wrestlers when you go to gaunlet mode but when your in a match, and your on the verge of unlocking one the wrestlers, the computer immediately changes the difficulty level from easy to hard! That's cheating! I knaw most of the reviews on amazon.com, give this game {if you can call the stupid the that} four or five stars. But please listen to me! If your looking for a good enjoyable wrestling wrestling game, I can give you a list. Trust me, am a big wrestling fan and I play and enjoy the games on this list. WWF Smackdown!, WWF War Zone, And my favorite, WWF Smackdown!2 Know your role

The variety of weapons and wrestlers makes this game a new ruler to which future wrestling games shall be measured. Although none of the action takes place in the ring, which is a downside if you are a veteran gamer, but the backstage assault is excellent nonetheless. The versatility and graphics of the wrestlers are excellent as well as music and animations of the background. This game is perfect for you if you like fast-paced action with a lot of weapons and using your favorite wrestlers to smash the ones you hate.

I love wrestling sure, I love video games sure. But WCW: Backstage Asssault is NOT wrestling and it's hardly a video game. When EA came out with its first WCW game, WCW Mayhem, I picked it up on opening day. And a day passed and my copy was back on the store shelf. I was looking forward to backstage assault, hoping EA would correct their mistake. NOPE. again my copy is back on the store shelf. First off, I am a wrestling fan, and I love harcore matches. But no ring in the game at all? Wrestling is not just fighting backstage it requires a ring to wrestle in. The graphics run as smooth as silk, I'll give them that. But the sound? Bad. The create a wrestler was the same as mayhem with very few tweaks. Save your money and buy Smackdown 2: Know Your Role. At least thats good

Well, they gave you enough characters for sure....But who some of them are,I don't know. The NWO is gone,Raven's flock is gone..Even the Revolution isn't here.(Benoit,Saturn,Malenko).They're of course with the WWF now.(Just waiting for Raven,Tazz, and Saturn to join up.That would ROCK!) Graphics...not as good as Mayhem.Gameplay...WILD but not set up enough in a wrestling fashion.Maybe the next WCW game on the next-gen consoles will be better....like I hope WCW gets to be.No Raven? No Benoit? No Scott Hall???Yeesh!

As a fan of WCW Mayham I expected great things from its sequel WCW Backstage Assault but I was in for a different kind of game. First of this game doesn't have a wrestling ring and no I am not joking by the way either. Instead all of the action in the squared circle doesn't take place in the ring at all, it takes place in the backstage areas. Hench the name Backstage Assault for this WCW game. I wonder why EA decided to remove the ring because without the ring it just a hardcore anything goes wrestling game. The graphics are pretty bad I mean WCW Mayham had better graphics and the wrestler sprints were huge and detailed compared to this gamee were the character models like bad. You have a huge roster of wrestlers to choose from as well as hidden wrestlers. You get to go on a career mode where you can win the WCW Heavyweight belt, WCW Hardcore, and WCW United States belts only(I think the WCW TV belt isn't in the game). You only get to fight one on one so that just sucks because you can't have 4 people play with you since its only a two player game. It lacks game modes like WWF Smackdown! series which is way better and funner. EA tried something different just failed with the game and should of really just stuck with WCW Mayham's formula instead.

Graphics: It's okay for PS but it could have been way better. Kind of blocky and the faces look like robots.Sound: Great commentary, yet boring. The themes are simple and boring also. Gameplay: 2 words: E.Z. Frusteration: Barely any frusteration once you figure out the controls. |
