5.0 out of 5 stars A great event
Im 15 years old and have been watching wrestling for so many years and I was going through my closet the other day and found this tape and popped it in and let me tell you, great event. Maybe the greatest wrestling event of all time. The hostile takeover storyline was just awesome and got the announcers all worried and could hardly talk about the matches going on...

2.0 out of 5 stars WCW Bash at the Beach 1996 Review
This event is the birthplace of the New World Order, and also where Hulk Hogan turned his back on all the little "Hulkamaniacs" out there. I loved it! Well, the undercard left something to be desired. I mean, they couldn't come up with anything better than Ray Traylor vs. John Tenta in a "Silver Dollar on a Pole" match? Maybe the greatest wrestling event of all time. The hostile takeover storyline was just awesome and got the announcers all worried and could hardly talk about the matches going on.

Who was the third man???

Rey vs. Psicosis

This match started out slow but picked up. Some great hurricanranas and other luchadore moves made this an awesome opener. The finish will leave you breathless 9/10

Big John Tenta vs. Big Bubba(RIP)-This was a "silver dollars" on a pole match. It was ok, but coming after the luchadore match was a bad move and made the crowd dead. 5/10

Ddp vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Pretty good contest. It was short but that was good because these guys could not go that long with there styles. Hacksaw was very over. 7/10

Nasty Boys sv. Public Enemy-Even though im what you call a "smark" I still dont know to much about Public Enemy. This match was cool but sord of a lame finish In my opinion 6/10

Dean Malenko vs. Disco Inferno for the CW title- I remember watching this video when I was 8 and hitting the fast forward button. Now I watch this match and think its awesome. Disco is one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time and Dean Malenko can be overrated at times but I liked this match 8/10

Steve McMichael vs. Joe Gomez- Joe of course is a jobber and was just fed to the ex nfl star. I thought this match was good because Joe got hits in and wasnt made to be a pussy. 7/10

Oh, something funny after the match, I think it was Tony who said "A good win for Steve who has a long and great career ahead of him" HAHA, if they only knew...

Ric Flair vs. Konnan for the united states belt- Ya know, Hogan could learn something from Flair about going down to mid card. This match was good with a good heel finish 7/10

The Giant and Kevin Sullivan vs. Arn Anderson and Chris Benoit. The crowd at this event was wierd, last match they were more on Flairs side who is Horsmen and this match for the Giant/Sullivan. I thought G/S were the bad guys back in those days? Well good match but when the Giant FINALY comes in hes only in for a 2 minutes before the finish happened 8/10

And finally, the "Hostile Takeover" match.

Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and ? vs. Sting, Macho Man and Lex Luger- Early on in the match Luger gets taken out when Sting stinger spalshes him when Nash is on him. I have a feeling many thought back then that Luger was the third man. The match was good, had its slow parts but overall good. Hogan being the 3rd man was just a shock to the wrestling world. 9/10

Announcing- Well it was Tony Schivane, Bobby Heenen, Dusty Rhodes and for a few matches Mike Tenay. Bobby and Dusty carried the team with there hilarious talk 8/10

Interviews/backstage stuff- It was all done by Mean Gene Okerlund and hes hilarious. He said a few times that he was afraid of the outsiders because he had a string of layers and he just said things that made me laugh. One of hte high points of htis great tape 9/10

The tape gets in 83% and at $6, its a must have.

For all the people looking for the best deal, do not buy this video from Amazon. You can get this video from Hastings for $13. Although I must warn you, if you're one of those "fans" that can't stand a slow-paced match, then you shouldn't even watch this video. Nowadays, many people call themselves fans but have the nerve to chant "boring!" when the match isn't going 100 miles an hour. So please, if you're one of those fans, then don't waste your money. But for all the real fans out there, this is a decent video. This video is recommended, but not highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars WCW BASH AT THE BEACH 1996, February 2, 2002
This review is from: WCW Bash at the Beach '96 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is my vote for the greatest PPV of all time. Every match shows the stars in it at their peak. Nasty Boys vs Public Enemy and DDP vs Jim Duggan were a lot of fun, and the Horsemen are at their best, too. But the main event, our boys Savage, Sting, and the Total Package vs Hall, Nash, and Hogan was a masterpiece that will leave you in tears. A classic from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BIGGEST SWERVE IN WRESTLING HISTORY!!!!!!, July 1, 2001
This review is from: WCW Bash at the Beach '96 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Oh my godd what an ending to an okish pay per view. The ppv may not be 5 stars but the ending makes up for it here are my ratings and comments out of 5 stars.

Match 1: Psicosis vs. Rey Misterio, Jr. - incredible high flying match. one of Psicosis's best I've ever seen with the match with Yoshihiro Tajiri 1st. This is when WCW was experementing with cruiserweights and seeing how the crowd would react to them. all I can say is that they brought it here RATING: *****

Match 2: Big Bubba vs. John Tenta in a Carson Silver Dollar Match - not really a good match just think it as The Bossman vs. Earthquake and that will give you what I think of this match RATING: *

Match 3: DDP vs. Hacksaw Duggan in a Taped Fists Match - this is a few months after DDP won battle bowl and he fueded with mid carders. pretty stupid match here. RATING: DUD

Match 4: The Nasty Boys vs. The Public Enema in a Dog Collar Match - I have always been a fan of dog collar matches dating back to Piper vs. Valentine and The Pitbulls vs. Raven and Stevie Richards and this is a pretty good brawl but it doesn't touch those two RATING: ***

Match 5: Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko vs. Disqo Inferno - wow!!!!! what a back and forth battle here. Malenko was an awesome cruiserweight champion and Disqo had debuted months earlier and believe me this match doesn't suck and when you watch it you will want more. good one here RATING: ****1/4

Match 6: Joe Gomez vs. Steve Mongo McMichael - man what a dumb match!!! Gomez is a huge jobber and is it just me or does everybody have Mongo!! Squash..everybody knew who would win this. RATING: 1/2*

Match 7: U.S. Champion Konnan vs. Ric Flair - Konnan was an awsome us champion and he would turn heel months later. good solid matchup here but I always hate this ending. RATING: ***

Match 8: The Giant & Kevin Sullivan vs. Chris Benoit and Arn Anderson - giant sux.....sullivan is ok....benoit rules...and the enforcer rules...but this match sux. Benoit and Sullivan had their awesome falls count anywhere match and this is disapointing RATING: **1/2

Match 9: Sting, Lex Luger, and Randy Savage vs. Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and ................Hulk Hogan - wow was I seriously shocked!! nobody expected it!!! and boy did everybody hate hogan after this......not a good match but the pshycology is incredible and the swerve saves it big time. RATING: *****

---ONE OF THE BEST WCW PPV EVER SO GET IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars REQUIRED VIEWING FOR ANY WRESTLING FAN, August 30, 1999
This review is from: WCW Bash at the Beach '96 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video has the birth of one of the strongest forces ever in WCW, the NWO. This video is great from top to bottom. The first match between Rey and Psychosis is AMAZING 5++ stars just for that. Malenko-Disco is entertaining, as well as Flair vs Konnan and watching the Giant make short work of Arn Anderson. But YOU MUST get this video to see the end of Hulkamania (well, until now). This is required viewing for a wrestling novice. They must watch it. Also, if you're looking for a good buy, get this, it's worth the 16.99, trust me!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the night Hogan saved wrestling again!, February 21, 2004
By
"nwo4life96" (Hilliard, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WCW Bash at the Beach '96 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
First off, let's just say, without a doubt, Ric Flair is a better wrestler than Hogan, but Hogan is wrestling savior. No one will ever reach the heights that Hogan had! Back in '85, Hogan took a little wrestling group called the WWF and turn them into the giant they are today. Vinnie Mac can scream all he wants, but he knows, he owes his fortune to Hogan and all his little Hulkamaniacs. But this is WCW, and their tag-line reads "This is where the big boys play" and they needed Hogan. But alas, Hogan was still popular, but not drawing fans. Enter Scott Hall, and Kevin Nash. Storyline tells us they are here from the WWF to take over and end WCW. They take on 3 of the top wrestlers in WCW, ala Sting, Lex Luger (personal note on Lex Luger, you killed Miss Elizabeth, you bastard) and the "Macho Man" Randy Savage. The match is ok, but when Hall and Nash are about to pin Savage, out walks Hogan. Crowd screaming, announcers screaming, Hogan's back to save the day. Hall and Nash hit the floor cowering. Hogan flexes his 24 inch pythons, runs, hit the ropes, and WHAM!!!!!!!!!! Wrestling is saved once more. The crowd's reaction to what had happen, is a storywriter's dream. No one could imagine the Marking that was taking place, even I was shocked for only a moment. Every heel turn before and since this event PALES in comparision. You can take all the Goldberg's, Michaels, Triple H, Rock, and Brock Lesnar, put them in a match and this still would be the best thing wrestling has ever done. It is like, watching your best friend, steal your girlfriend away. It hurts to see, but in the end, (To quote a great man) It's still the best thing going, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
