Wonderful Event,
By A Customer
This review is from: WCW Beach Blast [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Beach Blast 92 only featured 5 matches, but they where all above average to say the least. The opener say "Fly'in" Brian Pillman v. Johnny Flamingo (aka Raven). This was a very good match which featured some very sound back and forth mat wrestling. The next match was a falls count anywhere match between Cactus Jack and Sting. Sting and Cactus blow the roof off the place in this 5 star affair. One of the best brawls I have ever scene. Next Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat took on "Ravishing" Rick Rude in a 30 minute Iron Man Match. Just a wonderful encounter all the way. In my opinion this is the best Iron Man Match ever. It beats Bret v. Shawn at Wrestlemania 12 because it's more fun to watch. I would also put it over The Rock v. HHH at Judgement Day 2000 becuase this one just told a better story. I loved the way this match unfolded. Ricky getting in some good offense for the first 7 min or so then Rude getting some quick pins. I won't spoil the ending but I assure you it's a great piece of business. The next match up saw "The Natural" Dustin Rhoads, Nikoli Volkoff & Barry Windham v. Dangerous Alliance ("Stunning" Steve Austin, Arn Anderson) This match was great, but for some reason WCW cut it and there is only about 5 minutes of action. I don't know why WCW did this but what is on the tape is gold. The Main event saw The Steiners (Scott & Rick) v. "Doctor Death" Steve Williams & Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy. This was another wonderful match up but also has about 3 minutes cut from it. Anyway besides the cuts this is one of the best cards in the history of professional wrestling. I put this card right up there with Wrestlemania 10 and WWF In Your House Canadain Stampede. A MUST HAVE FOR ANY SERIOUS WRESTLING FAN.

Great Classic!!,

This one was during the Bill Watts era of WCW. While the "top rope DQ rule" sucked, the matches themselves were excellent!! It is a classic and is worth the money.

WCW Hits The Beach With A Blast,

Thanks to another old tape that I was able to get from a friend, I was able to see WCW's first beach style PPV card that would be replaced in 1994 by the name "Bash At The Beach" entitled Beach Blast '92. Now once again, during this time WCW would edit their cards down to two hours so most of the filler undercard matches would be removed along with at times the main matches being edited down to fit the tape. However since I have the actual event, I am not sure what has been edited.WCW Light Heavyweight Champion Brian Pillman vs Scotty Flamingo. For those hardcore fans that may not know, Flamingo would go on to greater success in ECW known as Raven. This was a different style of a match than the Pillman/Liger series as they focused more on mat wrestling with an occassional high-flying move coming about with a few moments to check out being Flamingo taking a suplex off the apron onto the concrete floor & the final dive that Pillman took that had him land on his head on the ramp that would play a factor in this encounter as it was just a great mat-wrestling match with a nice pace throughout. Ron Simmons vs Terry Taylor. This was the beginning of a big singles push for Simmons as with the exception of a few moments here & there, this match was dominated by Simmons who used his power & football offense to get the victory. Greg Valentine vs Marcus Bagwell. This was another match that was just real short & nothing really noteworthy past this being the last WCW PPV appearance of Greg Valentine (that I know of anyways). Around this part, there was the beginning of the first major attraction of the night and it wasn't even a match as it was contested throught the rest of the night. It was a Bikini contest between Madusa of the Dangerous Alliance against Missy Hyatt. This was a foreshadowing for the WWF's verison of this contest in late '90s as both women came out to different outfits to the approval of the crowd with Johnny B. Badd and Jesse Ventura getting in on the action for comedic reasons. Falls Count Anywhere Match: WCW Champion Sting vs Cactus Jack. This was a non-title match since Vader was scheduled to battle Sting for the title at the next PPV but the story behind this match was that Sting was returning from his rib injury at the hands of Vader against the man who wanted to take Sting out for his own sick pleasure. This was Cactus's best WCW match as the action started on the ramp with both men going all over the place with moves like Jack doing a sunset flip off the apron, Sting delivering a suplex in the crowd, both men using the ramp to their advantage & even taking hard shots onto the railing with the storytelling of Cactus working on Sting's previous injured ribs. Iron Man Challenge: Ricky Steamboat vs Rick Rude. This was the SuperBrawl rematch with the stipulations being that there would be nobody at ringside for either man, the match would have a 30 minute time limit with the winner being the man who gains the most falls at the end of the 30 mins. This is one of those matches that I consider to be a lost classic encounter & my favorite match of the night as these two put on a tremendous performance. The story was well told early as Rude had his ribs injured early that lead to him gaining a few falls early including giving up a fall just to hurt Steamboat (the whole top-rope DQ rule for those wondering) & keep the advantage. The action was back & forth constantly as Steamboat fought like a champion to comeback & even the score before the last thirty seconds really pushed the limits of both men resulting in a very intense finish to what was again, a lost classic encounter between two legends. Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes & Nikita Koloff vs The Dangerous Alliance. This team of the Dangerous Alliance was the team of "Stunning" Steve Austin, Arn Anderson & Bobby Eaton. This was one of those multi-tag matches where there was constant action from both ends with the Alliance using heel tactics & Paul E. Dangerously to keep the edge along with a tease of friction between Rhodes & Windham that would become a factor in the upcoming months. The ending was a bit cheap (the whole top-rope DQ rule crap) but this was still a good six man tag that not satisfied the fans but also wanted you to see more. WCW Tag Team Champions The Steiner Brothers vs Dr. Death Steve Williams & Terry Gordy. For Japanese wrestling, this was a dream match but this was really a dream match for anyone who knows their tag team wrestling history. The Steiners started off early with a flurry of offense before Williams & Gordy tried to slow the pace causing Rick & Scott to do the same in that respect. Both teams decided to use the same tag team tactics in trying to cut the ring in half & keep the fresh man out of the match with Scott's arm being heavily focused. They went the 30 min. time limit as it was just classic tag team wrestling from start to finish with the outcome promising a rematch that I am sure fans wouldn't have mind after seeing this. "As a side note" their rematch was actually at the next Clash Of The Champions which resulted in Scott Steiner getting injured, cutting this feud short. Overall, this event along with SuperBrawl & The Great American Bash were my favorite WCW cards from 1992. There were only two filler matches but those matches didn't last long with every other match being a standout contest whether it came to light-heavyweight action, hardcore, & tag team wrestling. I highly recommend this card to anyone who is able to find it.

I'm going to review Beach Blast 1992 as you can see. The 1st ever Beach Blast cause WCW started having Pay Per Views that had a Beach theme this event as youu know would become Bash At The Beach. So this show was held a month after Wrestle War WCW started doing more Pay Per Views around this time. There wasn't much build up going into this show. On The June 30th episode of WCW Saturday Night a new Executive Vice President of WCW was named Bill Watts. You got a Wrestling guy to run the company finally cool. Not really cause on this episode he made new rules where if a wrestler goes off the top rope they are disqualified if yu ram there head into the ring post or security rail then you are disqualified. On The May 23rd episode of WCW Saturday Night Diamond Dallas Page showed a video tape where Paul E Dangerously had paid those women to accuse Ricky Sreamboat of sleeping with them. It was also announced that Rick Rude would have to face Steamboat in a 30 minute Iron Man Match. Also Terry Gordy & Steve Williams returned to WCW they said that they were going to be in The NWA World Tag Team Tournamentbut before they did that they challenged The Steiner Brothers for The WCW World Tag Team Championship. They got there shot at Beach Blast. On The May 30th episode of WCW Saturday Night Larry Zbyszko quit The Dangerous Alliance. On The June 13th episode of WCW Saturday Night Ole Anderson returned to WCW he was named The Senior Referee. On The June 6th episode of WCW Saturday Night Madusa & Missy Hyatt got in an argument cause they had a Bikini Contest at this event. On The June 13th episode of WCW Saturday Night Harley Race said that Sting can't hide behind his rib injury forever soon he will have to face Vader. But Sting also had to face Cactus Jack at this event in a no disqualification falls count anywhere match, Finally on The June 20th episode WCW World Wide Steve Austin defeated Barry Windham to retain The WCW Television Championship. The buyrate was an 0.40.DateJune 20, 1992 Attendance5,000 VenueMobile Civic Center CityMobile, Alabama 1st off the lighting looks like The 70's man does it s u c k The Analysts Eric Bischoff & Tony Schiavone interview Bill Watts he has banned Paul E Dangerously & Madusa from ring side Now Let's Hook EM UP! WCW Lightheavyweight Championship Scotty Flamingo Def Champion Brian Pillman ** & 3 quarters of a star Jim Ross said that Johnny B Badd will be The Master Of Cermony for The Bikini Contest 1st Round of The Bikini Contest Madusa vs Missy Hyatt it was an evening gown match not much to this segment. Jim Ross said that next month will at The Great American Bash Sting will defent the title against Big Van Vader. Ron Simmons Def The Taylor Made Man * & half stars an alright match Jim Ross interviewed Ron Simmons good promo. Greg Valentine Def Marcus Alexander Bagwell * & half stars another match that was just alright Falls Count Anywhere Sting Def Cactus Jack ** & a quarter of a star this was half decent not Foley's best brawl but still was enjoyable Why couldn't thsi had been for The WCW World title. 30 Minute Iron Man Match Ricky Steamboat 4 falls Def Rick Rude 3 falls **** & half stars Ricky Steamboat's Wife & Son came to the ring with him. What can I say about this mathc it's great. Round 2 of The Bikini Contest Swim Suits this segment was better 6 Man Tag Team Match The Dangerous Alliance Arn Anderson Steve Austin & Bobby Eaton vs Barry Windham Dustin Rhodes & Nikita Koloff Ole Anderson disqualified Arn Anderson when he went off the top rope so Winham, Rhodes & Koloff get the win During the match Rsss & Ventura talked about the off the top rope rule Ventura said the it will take time for the fans to get used to it. Ross said the sports writers have criticized the rule they just don't undrstand yeah try & defend The Watts Rules his rules hurt matches here & there. I'll do soemthiing on The Pro Wrestling Foum for what I liked & disliked about The Bill Watts era in WCW. Anyway this match was more than decent. Eric Bischoff interviewed Ricky Steamboat Now that he has won The 30 Minute Iron Man Match he wants a shot at the US Championship. Paul E Dangerously interrupts he told Steamboat that you can't have anymore US title shots. Then Cactus Jack attacked Steamboat Security had to hold them back. The 3rd & final part of The Bikini Contest was well Bikini's. Madusa's wasn't really all that great. Missy's was stolen so she took Jesse Ventura's scarfs & she made a bikini out of them. Missy won Madusa got in an altercation with Johnny B Badd he took Madusa's top off screen Jesse Ventura went to check on Madusa Jesse thought that Madusa was The 1st Lady Of WCW. Jim Ross pi m ps Clash Of Champions XIX that features The NWA World Tag Team Championship Tournament. Tony Schiavone & Etic Bischoff analize the next match for The WCW World Tag Team Championship. 1st Eric Bischoff says for what Cactus Jack did to Ricky Steamboat there will be something to pay. Tony Schiavone said that this will be The Steiner Brothers toughest test to date. WCW World Tag Team Championship Champions The Steiner Brothers Rick & Scott vs The Miricle Violence Connection Dr Death Steve William & Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy **** & a quarter of a star the match went the 30 minute time limit Great Match This Pay Per View was solid You had a great match with The Steiner Brothers vs Willliams & Gordy The Iron Man Match was great. Winham, Rhodes & Koloff vs The Dangerous Alliance was more than decent The Lightheavyweight Championship match was more than decent. Sting vs Cactus Jack was a halfway decent brawl. The Bikini Contest was there. It felt like a throowaway Pay Per View not much build up the undercard was weak not mcuh build up going into the matches except for Steamboat vs Rude. I can see way it did a 0.40 buyrate but it still manages to be a great show. So yeah I can say check this show out if you'd like to. Next I will take a look at The Great American Bash 1992.
