WCW Spring Stampede - Best PPV of the year, September 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: WCW Spring Stampede 1999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This event was the best Spring Stampede ever and t best PPV of the year. The Bam-Bam/Hak match was amazing and the Kidman-Rey Reay match was unbelievable but i thought the main event was ugly. It should have been a lot better with four of the greatest superstars in the game. Anyway, dont spend 50$. A great PPV but for that much money i expected a lot more.

DDP's Finest Hour, March 17, 2010
This review is from: WCW Spring Stampede 1999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My WCW memories continue here with another old VHS that I have in my collection. I remember during this time that WCW was changing the direction of the company & even decide to focus on the undercard & push different talents in attempt to bring back the magic that the company once had. To add into that, WCW even changed to a new logo to continue with the changes. Now during this time, Hollywood Hogan had lost the WCW Championship to Ric Flair at the previous PPV event with both men actually switching roles (Hogan being the face, Flair being the heel) while at the same time, Diamond Dallas Page was being pushed into the main event picture along with Sting returning to add more drama to the title picture.
Juventud Guerrera vs Blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg was this masked cruiserweight that had a short run in WCW that was known for his speed & quickness. This match clearly lived up to what was supposed to be as these two went at it with speed & quickness while delivering impactful moves along the way. Both men went to air many times but it was one move from the top rope that made the difference in what was a great opening contest & a nice way to kick off the show.
Hardcore Match: Bam Bam Bigelow vs Hak. Hak was the name given to ECW's Sandman. These two wasted no time as they brawled at the entrance stage right from the getgo including a spot where Hak splashed Bam Bam through a table with weapons like the guardrailing, fire extinguisher, singapore cane & so much more being used. The ending was really something to check out since it was something that hadn't been seen before at the time.
Scotty Riggs vs Mikey Whipwreck. A long & boring filler.
Konnan vs Disco Inferno. This was one of those matches that wasn't bad but there really was nothing noteworthy that happened past that. Watchable but I really didn't care to see this match.
WCW Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio vs Billy Kidman. For those that don't remember, this was during the time where Mysterio didn't have his mask on so this match gets lost in time since WWE doesn't acknowledge that Rey has lost his mask before. Both men were tag team partners so this started off as a true gentleman contest before both men picked up the pace with meshing their high-flying offense with great wrestling along the way. One of the best matches on the card & I would call it a good lost match for the fact that I stated above.
Raven & Perry Saturn vs Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko. Great wrestling match between these four but seriously, did you expect any difference from these guys? Not much I can say about this one past it being a great wrestling match with Raven twisting the rules by bringing in a chair & table including Saturn splashing a table from the top turnbuckle & Benoit doing a sick headbutt onto a steel chair.
WCW United States Championship: Booker T vs Scott Steiner. The finals of the tournament to crown a new United States Champion due to Ric Flair stripping Scott Hall of the title. Before the match got started, Steiner was really showing his heel persona as he just wouldn't stop going at it with the fans at ringside. This match was similar to their previous match at Uncensored the month prior as this was another nice match to watch between these two with Steiner actually resorting to a cheap tactic to win the gold.
Goldberg vs Kevin Nash. This didn't top their Starrcade match as this match was short & sweet as the purpose was really all about Goldberg getting his revenge on Nash.
WCW Champion Ric Flair vs Hollywood Hogan vs Diamond Dallas Page vs Sting w/Guest Referee Randy Savage. The returns of Sting & Savage here with Savage sporting a new look along the way. This match started off wild with everyone taking turns brawling with each other at various points of the match. The big issue here was Hogan getting injured at one point of the match that actually lead to him being eliminated from the match. From there, this was a great main event as all three men put on a great showing before Randy Savage showed whose side he was really on as he made sure that Flair didn't walk out as champion allowing DDP to fulfill his ultimate destiny.
There were a few matches on here that didn't set well with me or may not set well with others but there were enough matches on here depending on what style you are looking that really makes this a memorable WCW event during this era that I would recommend if you can get your hands on it.

Not Bad, but it could have been promoted better, January 1, 2000
This review is from: WCW Spring Stampede 1999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This PPV had a little piece of everything in it from an anything goes match between Hak and Bam Bam Bigelow to Rey mysterio Jr. and Kidman to Kevin Nash and Goldberg (better match than at Starrcade) although I wish it had ended differently to a four way free for all for the world title. Like I said it is good even if it didn't seem good at the time. BUY IT-------------------------------------------Somewhere reasonable if possible (good luck if you live in South Florida)
