1.0 out of 5 stars I'm only going to talk about the fall out from this show not the PPV although it had some good & entertaining stuff on it, March 20, 2011
This review is from: WCW Starrcade 1998 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Let's go back to the Monday Night Wars shall we now I don't talk much about Pro Wrestling I mostly do just movie & video game reviews. This is going to be a rant this will be a long read but back in 98 Wrestling was big I grew up watching Wrestling but I just don't watch the new stuff that much. I liked WCW a lot 1989-1994 then WCW was was great again when you had The New World Order angle come in. But they just dragged The NWO angle out kept buring the same guys kept either Hogan or Flair as champ I do like Flair but he shouldn't have been the 1 to end the NWO 1999. A year prior you had Sting & Hogan I like Hogan but his ego ruined that match cause Bischoff had this idea for Sting to rid himself of this colorful preppy blond flat top style & go for a darker version where he became like a Crow type character they built that s h it up for a year & a half & Hogan really screwed that up I mean Bischoff is guilty too cause he never fought for Sting cause he just let Hogan do whatever in WCW cause he had that da m n creative control clause & he could play his politics he wouldn't let anybody go over him when it really was best for busineess. WCW in 1998 was a really poorly managed company at Superbrawl 8 when Sting won it should've been the end of The NWO & you push the mid carder like DDP Henning Hall "He who we will not speak of" AKA Benoit Raven Jericho Gurrero Melenko. You had Hart & this company never capitized on having Bret Hart from The WWF who was very high profile cause of the Monteral s h i t. The main focuse is Bill Goldberg who was super over in 1998 who came in, in 97 & just started racking up a win streak he eventually won the US title so there was no doubt that he was going to get a title eventually. They had Goldberg win it on free TV just so they could win in the ratings against the WWF who at this point was on fire & was pushing new talent Stone Cold Steve Austin was WWF Champion you had The Rock of course who would become big D Generation X just all kinds of new stars. WCW totally mismanaged Bill Goldbergs title reign cause you had him fight Curt Henning in the undercard in his 1st title defense decent match but still we had to make room for Dennis Rodman & Karl Malone. He defended it in a Battle Royale. He had a great match with him & Diamond Dallas Page at Halloween Havoc. I've read stuff about it I watched stuff from The Wrestling Round Table I've heard Kevin Nash talk about it. But all as I have to say is ph u c k you Kevin Nash, Hollywood Hulk Hogan yes Eric I blame you cause you just signed poeple to million dollar contracts I mean freaking Hogan had a $12 million salary. Billionaire Ted gave all his s h it to Time Warner then those AOL a z z holes hated wrestling they just surved to add to the problem I wasn't the quote unquote fly on the wall but you read stuff & hear stuff. Ok Goldbberg at this point was like what 174 & 0 I believe it was suppose to Hogan himself that ended the streak. Kevin Nash says he wasn't the booker but he had creative control in his contract so he won he had this stupid ending where Scott Hall comes & zaps Goldberg with a cattle prod Nash won. Then you had this dumb angle where Hogan was running for President he came back to Nitro it was all a ruse & we got the finger poke of doom which was faker than the BS in the April Fools Day movie. Starrcade 98 was just a rip off. The streak should've continued into 1999. Why let somebody more worthy end it I really think Scott Stiner should've won the title in 1999 or Bret Hart should've ended the streak in 99. So many people you could've focused on in 99 yet we go back to Hogan as Champion & suprise suprise Goldberg doesn't get a shot at title he doesnt't even get World title back until 2003 but that was in The WWE where he was butied by Triple H but what Triple H has done is mild compared to the politics Hogan done like with Starrcade 1997 he didn't want to lose cleanly cause "Oh Sting hasn't competed in over a year so I want to win then the match is restarted. It was the kind of crap like this that makes me hate on Hogan. Bischoff never could be the boss he just let all these old guys do whatever. Why didn't he tell Hogan to either do the job or ph uc k off! I mean they built that up for over a year everyone wanted to see Hogan lose. The guy who got 1st crack was Ric Flair but seriously my choices are watching Flair & Hogan (which they have good matches but Flair is 1 of my favorite wrestlers & I like Hogan but this was 1999) or Austin Rock that wasn't too hard to figure out who you were going to go with. DDP did get the WCW title but then a bunch of weeks of BS went by Nash beat DDP who lost at the last Pay Per View but wins the WCW World title that makes since. He got in some fued with Randy Savage where you got the return of Sid Vicous that was cool but that was about it.. Savage won the title in a tag match but lost to a returning Hogan then it just gets bogged down by Vince Russo's BS & you all know the rest. You had all this talent like Bret Hart Jericho Gurrero Curt Henning Scott Hall Scott Stiner who should've been the 1 to end the streak or Curt Henning then you spend your time working on Bill Goldberg becoming champ again while having guys like Booker T Curt Henning on the upper mid card US title picture & you use the older wrestler like Hogan Flair Bret Hart against Stiner heck who wouldn't want to see Rick come in have brother vs brother. You could've finished the year off with Goldberg back on top. What happend was we got people leaving & going to the WWF say what you will about Vince McMahon I'm not a fan of his but atleast he tries to test the waters & give fesh talent the ball. 2000 was pretty bad so many title changes no new talent just same old same old until the summer where you had Booker T win the WCW title Scott Stiner in the title hunt but it was too late & we are now reaching the 10th anniversry of when WCW was bought out by Vince McMahon so this was a big rant I know I was all over the place but so was WCW in 99 & 2000 & don't come & complain to me that I didn't review the product I put in the title the aftermath so this was my rant.
