WCW Superbrawl 3, from a person who went to the show,
By A Customer
This review is from: WCW Superbrawl III [VHS] (VHS Tape)
yup, thats right, i was there at the Asheville Civic Center, to watch this PPV. I had lower level seats. near the 'bad-guy' entrance way. matches included : Sting vs Vader (leather Strap match) Vader lost a hunk from his ear in a result of this match, very brutal match, one of the better matches in WCW history. Pillman vs Scotty Flamingo Flyin Brian vs the man who we now know as Raven. THis was a Lightheavy Weight title match, good match, i remember it well, because Pillmans death made me realize, and think of the times i saw him give his all in the ring. Windham vs Muta w/Flair awarding the belt this was for the NWA title, decent match, but Flair brought the house down in his return from the WWF. Maxx Payne did the star spangled banner on his guitar, ala Hendrix, good show guys

Perhaps the most underrated moment in wrestling in the last 25 years: Barry Windham wins the NWA World Heavyweight Championship...need we say more? Also a very choice pre superstardom Chris Benoit v. 2 Cold Scorpio match is there as two bust their butts in an opening match that shows exactly why these guys were so good.

I rented this video before i liked because they saw the return of the Nature Boy Ric Flair, Sting and Vader put on a great strap match, and even saw Vader bleeding, and the British Bulldog made his debut in WCW that night.

All the Matches were top Caliber and the Strap match between Sting and Vader beats any others that there will ever be.It's just a shame that Maxx Payne blew his US Title Shot by getting Disqualified.

This is a very well done WCW show! SuperBrawl III saw the return of Ric Flair to WCW, the debut of the British Bulldog, Barry Windham vs. the Great Muta for the NWA World Heavyweight title, a classic bout between Chris Benoit and 2 Cold Scorpio, and a brutal leather strap match between Sting and WCW World Champion Big Van Vader. In addition, Cactus Jack takes on Paul Orndorff in a falls count anywhere match! Great show

This was another event I saw courtesy of WCW 24/7 and this was a memorable events for various reasons. This PPV was hosted by Johnny B. Badd, Missy Hyatt, and Eric Bischoff while Jim Ross & Jesse Ventura did the commentary. Maxx Payne also performed the National Anthem on his gutair. The big story here was the return of Ric Flair to WCW after his run in WWF...which also marked the first time Ric Flair & Jesse Ventura had interacted on television.
Brian Pillman & Steve Austin vs. Erik Watts & Marcus Alexander Bagwell - This marked the PPV debut of the tag team that would go on to be known as the "Hollywood Blondes." Austin & Pillman gave Erik Watts the best match in his career here as they gave a great opening tag team match. It's nothing memorable but compared to most of the matches on the card, this was the "sleeper" bout. 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Chris Benoit - Scorpio's style was unique & very underrated in WCW at this time while Benoit was in his early stages of his career at this time as well. The match was a 20 min. time limit & they wrestled all the way to 1 sec. short of the time limit. This was a wrestling masterpiece for that day & age in WCW eventhough they would go on to better boughts in ECW. (Also available on "Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story") Davey Boy Smith vs. Bill Irwin - Memorable moment #3 here as the British Bulldog makes his WCW debut here in a quick squash match. The post-match promo which Davey stuttered & stumbled over his own words was more interesting than this match. Falls Count Anywhere Match: Cactus Jack vs. Paul Orndorff - Cactus just turned babyface around a month earlier and you saw that aggression & intensity from Orndorff that you haven't seen since his fued with Hogan back in '86. Cactus busted up Orndorff's pre-match interview and they fought all over the ringside area including using weapons such as a knee brace & even a shovel. This was a wild brawl that was actually the match of the night for me. Rock N' Roll Express vs. Heavily Bodies - This formation of the Heavily Bodies consisted of Tom Prichard & Stan Lane with Bobby Eaton & Jim Cornette as ringside before Eaton got thrownout of ringside. This was an average tag match was the Express were out of their prime at this time while the Bodies were just a last min. replacement for the recently released Wrecking Crew. This match didn't do anything for me. WCW United States Champion Dustin Rhodes vs. Maxx Payne - Dustin Rhodes' original opponett was suppost to be Ron Simmons but he was injured so Payne took his place. Payne just isn't a good wrestler & while Dustin is a natural in the ring (hense his nickname "The Natural"), this match wasn't watchable as Dustin couldn't carry Payne & the ending of Payne getting disqualified didn't help either. NWA Champion Great Muta vs. Barry Windham - Flair came to ringside to call this match. Windham's ground game actually meshed well with Muta's japanese style here in a very underrated match in WCW's history. It ended with Windham finally reaching the potental people saw in him years upon years earlier as he finally became a World Champion...with Ric Flair actually putting the belt (that he never lost) around Windham's waist. Strap Match: Sting vs. Vader - Despite the corny "White Castle Of Fear" storyline (which parts of the vigenettes were shown thoughout the time), this was a stiff strap match. And I say the match was stiff as Vader got hit so hard various times that his back was heavily bleeding thoughout the bout. The match itself was probably not as good as the other Sting/Vader match I've seen (Starrcade 92) as it was slow at times with the "touch the four corners" concept of a strap match. The ending was the sterotypical ending to a strap match where the winner won by accident as Sting pushed Vader into the final turnbuckle. Overall, this was just an average WCW PPV with good matches but nothing that sticks out in your mind or is memorable plus the Benoit/Scorpio match is available on DVD (without Ventura's commentary). This is one event that I recommend at a low price.

The match with Benoit and 2 Cold Scorpio is amazing. 5 stars as Scorpio pins him in a 20 minute time limit match at 19:59. Awesome. Also the debut of The British Bulldog. The Sting-Vader strap match was very stiff. Both guys get busted. Great stuff and an interesting ending

WCW CLASIC GARBAGE THAT YOU JUST GOTTA LOVE,
By
This review is from: WCW Superbrawl III [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Superball 3 was sloppy as h$ll, but its still classic WCW so it's expected. The White Castle of fear main event is pretty good, but the PPV intro of it is not...let me explain. Sting bursts into this production set of "the white castle" which looks like umm well a castle inwhich we are lead to believe Vader lives, and where Sting has come to accept the challenge in Vader's White Castle of fear. Some lame jokes are exchanged worst being Stings attempt at comedy and teh the thing blows up and the PPV begin's, which is sponsered by...White Castle hamburgers, how pathetic. Also every wrestler looks as thow they've had there luggage stolen and are wearing some of the worst ring attire ever produced. Vader flaunts a animal skin cape to the ring to give you an idea. But still its worth it.
