I cannot rant about these enough! Dad and son played with these for 45 minutes straight out of the box. Also, numerous visitors to our house ranging from babies to teens, to grown up men and women have played with them! Getting the larger set like this was WORTH IT! I love that it is good for older children, but is safe for my infant who is crawling around. I also love the wonderful "vanilla" or something smell. Durable, yet flexible. A very open-ended toy . . . requiring creativity, attention to detail, and analysis. A favorite manipulative in our homeschool.

I love the smell and texture and my 14 month year old likes knocking my creations down. my annoyances with this are:
a) doesn't fully work with later wedgits as the little octohedrans don't hold in the rubber; can stack with the harder plastic though b) can't make the cooler things without the smaller piece at the top and because the rubber doesn't "wedge" like the harder plastic pieces do but they stack well and did i mention they smell really nice? also having 30 pieces allows for some more variation than the smaller 5 piece set.. all in all a nice toy but not "perfect" which you would hope for at this price wish these things were cheaper.

My one year old and four year old nephew love playing with these blocks. They both found them very appealing to play with even amidst a sea of other new birthday gifts. I was surprised about that. I'm sure they will get many years out of them.

I was thrilled to find the Wee Wedgits for my one year-old. We own other wedgits sets (wedgits deluxe & wedgits on wheels) and have really enjoyed building with them but the white octahedrons are too small for a one year-old. This set is perfect with softer pieces and large octahedrons. The set has 30 pieces which allows for great variability in design and allows many people to build together. The great thing is that the pieces stack well with the regular wedgits so we can make larger creations. This really allows our whole family to play together, including my 4 and 6 year-old sons.
Overall, a fun building toy for the entire family. Great for any age.

Purchased this set + the green building boards and some additional pieces for my 3 grandsons for Christmas. These are wonderful toys....easy to handle, high educational value, no little pieces for choking and high interest value. The boys play with these off and on all day long. Adults enjoy using them for some kid-adult interaction.
A great present with no electronic nonsense, just intellect and imagination.....just what the educators ordered!!

I am a WEDGIT-devotee. I previously bought Wedgits for my little grandsons (ages 5 and 2 1/2) for them to play at our house when they visit. I ended up buying two sets because the boys make towering objects that require lots of expansion. Eventually, the Wedgits migrated to my daughter's house after my 5 year grandson repeatedly asked to "borrow" the set.
Recently, when I was looking for a gift for my little grand-daughter, I was delighted to discover the softer version, WEE Wedgits. Based on experience, I knew to buy the larger set. Granted my one-year old grand-daughter is precocious, but she already knows how to stack three wedits high ;-) Because she is sometimes unstable on her feet - and sometimes she likes to fling the pieces - the soft wedgits work perfectly. I only regret that WEDGITS weren't around when my two daughters were growing up!

have 2 1/2 year old twin boys...they like playing with these and they seem very durable. they are also soft so they seem easier to stack.

I have a very active 13 month old who loves to play with these Wee Wedgits. He started learning to stack with these at 12 months, and now he's learning the different angles that they can be fitted together. Not to mention that they get dragged around and played with in other ways all day. We also use it as an opportunity to help him practice his colors: "Put the green one on now." Almost everyone who comes into the house loves to build these into different types of pyramids and structures -- It's one of *my* favorite toys at the moment, I bought us a second kit....
The details: They aren't a soft-soft plastic, but aren't rigid either. They are roughly the same type of firm as the rings in a Fisher-price stacker. The first kit I bought had a bit of a plastic-y smell, but that dissipated over time. Second kit smelled fine. I like the way that they are phthalate-free as Baby likes to chew on them. They are sealed so I can throw them in the kitchen sink and wash them off thoroughly. As a note, we bought these when he was 10 months old, not a choking hazard, but he didn't have much interest in them at that time. Overall, one of the best toys we own, period. Definitely one of the best stacking toys for a one year old.

My son received these as a gift when he was 15 months old. They are fabulous!
For the first six months, he really just loved having us build stuff so he could knock it down. Big fun! Now that he is almost two, he has started building his own creations. It is pretty amazing to sit and watch him work it out. These are great for learning colors, shapes and problem solving skills. Super product that will get lots of use for years. |
