Can't Be Without It,
By Daisy (Top of the World) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WENŽ Tea Tree Cleansing Conditioner 32oz (Health and Beauty)
Like a lot of other reviewers of Wen products, I've been moaning and complaining about the cost of this product line. Well, let me tell you how I finally learned my lesson:
I'd been using this haircare line for about 6 months. I had started with the combo offered in the infomercial & moved onto the Tea Tree about 4 months ago, after reading reviews that it is the best "flavor" for my hair type (very dry hair with oily/itchy scalp that tends towards dandruff). I've loved Wen since about week 2 with the product due to the following: (a) my scalp issues were resolved, (b) my hair seemed healthier after about a week, (c) I had stretched my last cut & color out to 10 weeks since the color still seemed shiney (I have jet black hair & my color is added only to warm up the tones from a blue-black to a brown/red-black - there isn't that much of a difference between my natural hair color and my color-treated color)& my ends looked fine. However, a few weeks ago, as I neared the bottom of my latest bottle of Wen Tea Tree, I started questioning how incredibly expensive it was after I realized how quickly the bottle had been used...so I didn't order a new bottle before I ran out. I decided to go back to my old Aveda Color Conserve line in order to save some money. Within 2 days, (a) my itchy scalp was back AND (b) the shine was gone in my hair color, leaving it dull and lifeless looking AND (c) you could see exactly where the new hair growth ended and the color-treated hair began! It was disgusting! I immediately ordered a new bottle of Wen Tea Tree & scheduled a hair appt. I just hope that the Wen gets here by the time my appt comes around... I guess the bottom line is that you have to consider not only the fact that you get both cleanser & conditioner in one product AND that your hair will look better, but also that you will be able to stretch out the time between cut/color appts. I used to have to go every 6 weeks or so, but could stretch it to about 10 with Wen. Each appt is about $200 for me, so that's how I'm justifying continuing with this product.

I believe this is the 2nd product review I have written in my life which should tell you it really takes a lot for my brain to start spinning and my fingers to start typing. I purchased Wen TT about 2 months ago and from Day 1 it was a miracle...definitely made me a believer in all of the hype. The product is definitely expensive but when you really put it in perspective, the price is worth it. I typically make a point of reading all the reviews and came across a review claiming Hair One is extemely comparable and much cheaper. I'm the type of person that sticks with something after good results so I typically will not stray however, I ran out of Wen and even with Expedited shipping, i was going to be a few days without it...instead of going back to shampoo i decided to go to a local Sally's to pick up the Hair One for the interim. Let me tell you...if you have used Wen, Hair One is NOTHING like it. If you read the product ingredients, Wen has aloe vera gel as one of the main ingredients....Hair One has NO aloe vera gel in it. Hair one has a very stiff consistency and not moiturizing in the very least. The smell is very similar but that is the only comparison. Had i tried Hair One initially, I would have gone straight back to shampoo but knowing what Wen has done to change my hair for the best, next time I will make sure that I never run out of stock. I hope this review changes some of your minds...don't waste your money on Hair One. I'm in no way affiliated with eiter product - just a person trying to help a few out there from wasting your time and/or money. Wen is the way to go.

When I first started using Wen, it was after a horrific experience with a bad hairdresser who straightened my hair with the wrong products. I'm European by background and the hairdresser used a straightener on me meant for African American hair, which is much stronger than European hair. Let's just say the damage was horrific, my scalp had a huge scab on my whole head and my very long hair had 8 inches of damage! I was horrified and depressed over the damage because my hair could break at a long length. I changed hairdressers to a place in Munster, Indiana called "Active Art Salon." They were so good to me and said: "Well, we know you love the length of your hair, so rather than cut the damage off, we're going to ask you to use this Wen shampoo/conditioner until everything is back to normal." Two years after and lots of TLC, my hair was back to normal with all the damaged parts gradually cut off and it looks gorgeous!
What is great about Wen is the fact that it is extremely gentle and is more a cream than the usual gel that you see. It's very easy to use and my hair always is fantastic when I dry it. After wetting your hair, you pump into your hand how much you want (and keep in mind you don't have to put TOO much in your hair, but enough to saturate it, so go by your own discretion rather than the directions) and just slather it through. Dip your head back into the shower for a second and add more water, massage more and then leave on for a few minutes while you take care of the rest of your shower. Rinse, and you're done. Seems too good to be true? It really is that good! Build up with this product is almost impossible (but if you do put it on too heavy, for a long time, you might get a bit of a build up, which can be remedied easily.) I will usually grab my husband's shampoo once a month and since regular shampoo has heavy detergents it will easily take off the build up without stripping the hair of essential oils. Return to the Wen application and voila! Soft as silk once again. You can also use a little half pump to just run through your hair after the shower (just a bit!) if you have drier hair than most people and comb it through as a leave-in conditioner. Dry and style. Works best this way in the winter. It's just a nice, clean hair conditioner/cleanser. I have been using Wen since 2004 and have not gone back to typical shampoos and conditioners. It is more expensive than store-bought shampoos but those conditioners are usually full of a lot of wax to coat your hair and make it a mess. This stuff is way cleaner, more gentle and quick and easy to use. As for the different scents, they're not just scents but different mixtures for different hair types. I've experimented with all of them and ended up using the Tea Tree conditioner the most. I believe that it's the most common to buy. Look for Chaz Dean's website with the extensive products, because he has two of them, to explain which is what and determine your hair type and which one to use. This is a great product and I highly recommend it! I've been using this stuff since way before the infomercials came out and I won't go back! 5 Stars!
