Used WEN 4014 14-Inch 8 Amp Electric Chain Saw to totally destroy a 15yr old Palmetto Cluster in corner for new Garden. It worked flawlessly once we correctly adjusted the NEW chain (they do lengthen a bit when first used and require readjustment) and (yes the sand dulls the chain but not immediately so sharpen it ! DUH). For Home/Garden/Yard/RV (Generator required) Camping it is near perfection. The best thing is no damn recoil start rope to break and no damn Carburetor to occlude nor spark plug to foul. I had a 10" Wen Chain Saw 35 years ago and used it brutishly in remodeling of old homes (the wood lath and plaster type of old homes) for years. I never had a problem with it. So, when I retired from remodeling 10 years ago, I gave all my tools truck etc to my eldest son whom lives 1200 miles away (bye bye Chain Saw).
I recently started a Garden and needed a damn good but inexpensive Chain Saw. Therefore,I returned to Wen. I will again should the need arise. I hate Gas powered and despise battery powered tools! As long as I have 110VAC an extension cord I know my tools will run.

So far I have used it for 2 jobs (one of them was for several bushes/small trees) and the chain has jumped off the bar 3 times. No doubt this is some of my fault for not tightening the chain enough, but I am finding this hard to do. The tightening screw is very close to the bar, so it is hard to maneuver a screwdriver into the correct angle. The screw is already stripped enough that I will not be able to tighten it again if the chain falls off again.

The chain had a small nub on it which didn't allow it to spin freely on the bar; this is what caused the first jump-off. I was able to file the nub down so the chain fit well. I think that if I had gotten a perfect chain and tightened it very securely the first time around, I would probably not have had this hassle and I would be liking the chain saw very much. Hopefully I can get a new tightening screw at the hardware store and be back in business.

An old school saw without any automatic anything. Unlike other electric saws this one has a manual chain adjuster that never fails.

Electric chain saws can cut faster, longer and with less fuss than gas chain saws. Unfortunately, the current electric chain saws (from everybody) have a fatal flaw. The automatic chain tensioning doesn't work. It throws the chain and chews up the plastic drive sprocket. They can't be fixed.

One exception is the 14" WEN. It still has an old fashion manual tensioning screw. Carry a screw driver with you and monitor the chain tension, then at least you'll have a functioning chain saw.

So good so far with my 14" WEN. However, I would have preferred the more robust 1990s vintage 16"
