Beware of Worx Warrenty Claim Rigidity,
By

This review is from: WORX GT WG151.5 18-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger With Quick Charger (Lawn & Patio)
I have the Worx GT 18-volt cordless trimmer. This is the more expensive model that features a lithium battery. If you have any amount of lawn trimming to do beyond the circumference of a 5,000 square foot lawn, carefully consider the more expensive model. The battery potential of the standard model is significantly less which means you have less operation time to begin with and gradually deceasing work time as the battery ages. The added expense of the lithium battery is worth the investment. However beware of the Worx customer service. If for any reason you have a need to invoke a warranty claim on the trimmer, charger, or battery, plan on having at least a free half hour to wait on the phone for a customer service representative. Customer service is only available during a traditional work-hour week. This means if something goes wrong you better be mindful of the anniversary date of your purchase and give calling the Worx customer service your highest priority in your schedule. The email access is unreliable because it seems Worx has only one person responding. If she is out of the office, you will get an automated reply email instructing you to use the phone system. My lithium battery failed within the time of the one-year warranty. I had trouble reaching a customer service representative during office hours. My email claim resulted in my being redirected to the phone system. Seven days after my warranty expired I finally reached a service representative. Despite the fact of my good-faith effort to get through to customer service the preceding two weeks, I was denied the warranty replacement because I was seven days late. The representatives were empathetically kind about my dilemma but were unable to do anything beyond their willingness to take my order for a new unit. These batteries are expensive. I submitted a letter of complaint to the Worx corporate office. We will see what they do because I will update this blog entry with a summary of the outcome. -------------------------------- Update --- July 1, 2010 I have a confirmed delivery of my letter to the Worx corporate office in Charlotte, NC, as of June 14, 2010. My letter was respectfully crafted requesting that my warranty claim be honored, given that my good-faith effort for a timely claim was frustrated by the poorly structured Worx customer service system. As of July 1, the Worx customer service failed to make any effort to respond. It seems that, although the Worx product is a decent yard tool, the buyer would need to understand that Worx is not interested in post-market customer satisfaction. Once you have your Worx tool, you are on your own despite the stated warranty because, in effect, Worx structured the customer service to be unresponsive beyond taking new purchase orders. I noticed that the tool is designed to encourage the customer to be depended upon Worx to return each year to order spent trimmer line and purchase new batteries. Although the line is "free", the shipping and handling cost is pricey. One would do better to save the spool and rewind it with less expensive line from any hardware store. The batteries are expensive to replace every year. This is especially aggravating considering that ordinarily a reasonably manufactured lithium battery could easily last two or more years at a usage rate of one recharge per week. My battery lasted only 15 recharges. Given the battery price, the actual cost of each battery charge is about $4.00 plus the electrical service fee. I do not know if the competition is any better, but buyer beware of Worx customer service.

Very pleased with the trimmer,

This review is from: WORX GT WG151.5 18-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger With Quick Charger (Lawn & Patio)
I decided to buy this trimmer after reading all the reviews for the Ni-cad one. I was hoping the Li-ion battery would give me extra run time. So far, I haven't been able to run it down! I haven't had enough trimming at one time to see how long it will go.I have a friend that recommended this trimmer (although he has the ni-cad one). I must say that I'm pleased with it. I previously had a 24 volt one from Sears. It was a good trimmer, but heavy. The Worx is much lighter. It doesn't have as much power as the Sears, but plenty for normal yard work. One of the first things I noticed is that it actually cuts better than my old Sears model. If you're expecting a full blown replacement for a grass trimmer, you will probably be disappointed. It doesn't have near that much power. But, if you're realistic in your expectations, and have normal yard work, I think you'll like it. If you go to the Worx web site, you can get your string for just the cost of shipping. I ordered six spools and it cost me about $6.00 for the shipping. That's very reasonable in my book. The quality of the unit appears to be very good too. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Great Suburban Yard Trimmer/Edger,
By
This review is from: WORX GT WG151.5 18-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger With Quick Charger (Lawn & Patio)
This trimmer has proved very serviceable for my 1/3 acre suburban lawn. It's not as high powered as the gas driven other brands out there, but for general trimming around the foundation, flower beds, fence posts, etc. it's a great machine.I like the flexibliity of the unit: the handle articulates, the aluminum shaft telescopes to adjust for user height, and the cutter head angle adjusts to insure comfortable hortizontal trimming. Definitely, a well-designed unit from an ergonometric perspective. In the trimmer mode, the cutter guide/guard provides close, precise trimming without accidentally damaging plants or flowers, something hard to achieve with my old corded Toro. A few quick snaps and adjustments and the unit converts into a sidewalk or driveway edger. A caveat here: the unit trims nicely as an edger, but it's not definitely not powered to trench cut with the trimmer cord. When I tried to get the machine to cut into the dirt next to the sidewalk, it balked and the trimmer string would not advance properly. If used just to edge the grass with a clean vertical cut, the unit performed nicely. Power-wise, the GT's lithium ion battery provides sufficient power to handle my 1/3 acre routine trimming on one full charge. The user manual indicated a 30 minute recharge cycle for a full recharge, but my recharges have been about 40-45 minutes--still a very quick recharge time compared to other battery-powered models. I pushed the unit by tackling some overgrown grass and weeds in the adjacent vacant lot and it cut them nicely, but they obviously strained the unit to the limits of its power capacity. It can handle that type of work, but if you have lots of it, you're better off with another machine with more power. If you're in the market for a lightweight, easy to use, comfortable trimmer/edger with good power for general trimming and edging on a typically sized suburban lawn, the WE151.5 is a good choice. The old corded Toro trimmer I replaced with the Worx GT was nowhere near as versatile, convenient, or comfortable to use. Good job, Worx!

Great for normal trimming,

I was originally thinking of getting the original WG150 model from the infomercial when I happened across this new WG151 model and I'm glad I did. I had been using an expensive gas trimmer from a lawn specialty shop but the carburetor got gummed up and the shop was 3 weeks behind so I decided to look into one of the newer cordless electric models. There seemed to be a lot of complaints with the nicad battery of the original so it was the lithium ion battery of this model that sold me on it. It charges quickly in about 40 min for me and I can finish my trimming in about 30 min with charge left when I'm done. As others have stated, its not as powerful as a gas trimmer but cuts grass just fine. I wouldn't use it to clear a field but works great for trimming around the house, fence, and swing set. I also find that it doesn't nick up wood posts as bad if I accidentally get too close. This model is slightly upgraded as well as the edging wheels are now rubberized instead of just plastic. The auto feed head works very well for me, note that it does not feed while you trim, if you read the manual it only feeds when it is stopped and you start it up, sometimes if I let it get too short I have to stop and start it a few times to get it to full length, not a big deal since it is just pulling the trigger. Replacement spools are very inexpensive with the free spools for life program from the manufacturer, I ordered some right away and received them in about a week. Overall I am very pleased. Oh and much lighter than my gas trimmer as well so I find it much less of a chore to do so I am less likely to put off trimming until the next lawn mowing. Now only if they would make a lithium ion mower here in the states...

I live in Connecticut where the soil is very rocky. I have a large lawn with boulders and roots that are above thesurface and tempt me to run into them with my expensive lawn tractor. I can grab the WORX, trim around these obstuctions quickly and spare my tractor. I just tried the WORX for the first time and it trimmed fine. The initial charge lasted 21 minutes. August 11, 2009. I've been using this product for a while and am still very impressed with it. I have a slope with overgrown tough wild grass and the WORX is able to cut through it. It takes many charges to do the whole slope but because it is so easy to start and use I can get the job done. All without stress on my body because it is so lightweight and adjustable.

Received this item today.....charged the battery in about 30-40 min and took it out for a test run....Edged the front lawn by the 156 ft of sidewalk (both sides)that's over 300ft! and the driveway edges in no time and did a GREAT job.....then went out back to tackle the 9 brick and stone lined gardens....again did over 1/2 of the back before battery needed a quick recharge....went in to put battery on the charger and and registered product for the warranty on-line..had a coffee and battery was ready to finish...Did a great job...quite, powerful, clean and so light weight! Looks like gas trimmer will sit on rack most of the time now....this will do my over 1/2 acre yard so easy....Love it!

This is a great little tool. The Lithium-ion battery is tops. Lasts about 45 minutes full throttle. Very light weight. Doesn't hurt my back. It is totally adjustable to your height and size. Balanced well in your hand. It also recharges completely in about 30 minutes. The trimmer is nice and cuts well. Takes a little while to learn how to best cut with, but really does the job on my small yard. The best thing about it is the edger. My old B&D corded trimmer was nice but always hurt my back to lean over and such. It had an edger mode too, but the wheels on the Worx make it a clear winner. I have trimmed the yard and edged about 6 times now and am still on the same spool of trimming cord. I have never had to stop and take it apart to feed the line back thru unlike all the other brands. It feeds the line automatically each time you start it to the right length. When I do the yard, I start with this tool. If (very rarely) I ever need more charge on the Lithium-Ion battery, then I put it on the charger and mow. By the time I finish mowing, it is fully charged and ready to go again. Try that with any other brand. My yard has never looked so good. If you have a small to medium sized yard and want a nice light-weight trimmer with just the right power, this is it. And did I mention NO GAS needed......

Nice and Handy for the average yard,

This review is from: WORX GT WG151.5 18-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger With Quick Charger (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased the higher end LiON unit because I read the NiCad seemed under powered. It is easy to put together out of the box. The Instruction Manual that comes with it is in many languages and is pretty useless in all languages. As for the trimmer,It works fine on average yard things like trimming and edging. It is very operator friendly and very light. Powerwise it does the job, if you want a brush cutter buy a gas powered unit. But for trimming grass around flower beds and sidewalks it is light and very east to use it gets the job done. The ability to adjust the handle and trimmer makes this a tool that any size person can use. Adjustments are very easy. Their video represents the unit properly. The free spolls for life seems good, I purchased 6 for shipping of about $6.00. At this point it is my new toy and I cannot tell how long a spool will last. Bottom line is I feel this is a good buy and I am happy that I don't need to get gas and lug a heavy trimmer around any more.

This review is from: WORX GT WG151.5 18-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger With Quick Charger (Lawn & Patio)
The WORX product is alright, although the mower arrived with minor damage (poor packaging). The customer service is the worst I've ever dealt with. After purchasing my WORX mower and grass trimmer through Amazon, I eventually needed to purchase more trimmer spools and opted for the "free" spools program (paying only shipping) offered directly from WORX customer service. In the same order, I also purchased a device from them that allows you to store the grass trimmer and it's battery on the wall of your garage. After being charged as expected, two weeks past with no product. I contacted their customer service and was informed both products (spools and trimmer device) were on back-order but would ship in 24 to 48 hours. After another week passed, I called again and was transferred to a supervisor who sounded like he was reading from a script. He admitted the spools had not been on back-order but could not explain why I was lied to previously. He could not tell me when my order would ship saying that it was "in process". He then offered a to wave the shipping cost as though that would fix not being able to use my $100 WORX grass trimmer without the spools they sell. This supervisor then assured me he would forward my "case" to upper management and I would receive a call within the 72 business hours. It's been eight days and I've not received a call. It's been over 4 weeks since I placed the order. Though it's for a small amount of money (less than $25), WORX customer service has essentially stolen my money and falsely advertised in selling me a product I can't obtain and they won't (or as this supervisor said to me, he "can't") tell me why! I assume others are receiving the items they purchase from WORX. I have no idea why they can't solve my issue. I'm sincerely amazed at the incompetence and inability of this company's customer service and therefore highly recommend all consumers consider purchasing lawn products from one of WORX's competitors instead (try Black and Decker). If this is any example of how WORX is willing to do business then they deserve to go out of business. Buyer beware.

I have owned the WG151.5 trimmer for a little over a week and have been pretty impressed. I was using a corded trimmer prior to this. The WORX trimmer is not quite as powerful as the corded trimmer I was using, but it cuts the grass really well (better than the corded trimmer). When I first received the trimmer I was a little concerned by how small the spools were, but have not burned through the first of three spools included with the trimmer yet. 6 spools can be purchased directly from WORX for a little over $6 shipped. The battery life is good - the battery did run out during trimming, but I half expected that due to the amount of trimming I did (large fully fenced yard). Charging time took about 30-40 minutes. I also used the edging feature, it worked great. The trimmer is very light due to it having the li-ion battery instead of the ni-cad battery that most other cordless electric trimmers have.
