Worx battery
The mower comes with a removable battery for easy recharging.

IntelliCut Technology

The WG788 is equipped with patented IntelliCut technology, which ensures that power is there when you need it. No more bogging down in tough conditions when mowing tall grass or mulching leaves. Simply set the dial to Power when cutting through the tough stuff, and switch the dial to Quiet when mowing a side lawn next to your neighbor's house. Now you can mow the lawn at almost any time of day without irritating the neighbors or disturbing your children's naps, yet still have access to a powerful chopping mower when facing high weeds.

Operation and Performance

The Worx WG788 is ideal for large yards with grass that varies in height and thickness, with a battery that runs for up to one hour or 18,500 square feet per charge (in Quiet mode). If your lot is about the size of six tennis courts, this is the mower for you. The mower also includes several handy cordless functions, such as an easy-to-read power level indicator that tells you when it needs charging. And thanks to the three-in-one grass handling--which mulches, discharges grass to the side, or bags grass--you can easily mulch your lawn to encourage a healthier surface or bag the grass for composting or disposal.

The Worx Advantage

The WG788 offers a number of advantages over traditional lawnmowers. Unlike gas mowers, you won't throw out your arm starting the WG788 or get your hands dirty while checking the oil. Plus, the mower is quieter than gas mowers and emissions-free. In contrast to traditional electric mowers, users won't have to uncoil and step over an extension cord while mowing the front lawn. And the WG788 is far more efficient and easier to use than push mowers, which often require several passes to mow a tough patch of grass.

Ready, Set, Mow

Mowing the lawn is no longer a chore with the WG788. In addition to the easy-on switch, the mower includes a mulching blade designed to chop up your clippings even better than standard blades. To help you deal with seasonal grasses, the mower offers six height positions, so your lawn will look like you hired a pro. And the convenient detachable handle system makes it a cinch to remove the battery and charge it in a separate location. The handlebar also collapses for storage in tight spaces. With the Worx WG788, it's easier, quieter, and cleaner than ever to mow the lawn.

What's in the Box

WG788 cordless lawn mower, removable 36-volt battery, charger, mulch insert, side discharge chute, grass bag, safety key, user's manual.

I'll be short and to the point. I read everyone's reviews and was somewhat skeptical about this machine. I had a Black & Decker before and was not satisfied from the quality of the build and the battery holding charge. This machine completely changed my perception on electric mower. It came packed extremely well, everything was included and nothing was damaged during shipping. Unpacking is a breeze and you have it assembled in less than 15 minutes. The manual is not as complex as some may say and within 10-15 minuets you know all that's required to operate all the 3 main functions. When you put it together, you notice the amazing quality of every single part on this machine. It's just a pleasure to handle the height adjustor, the battery compartment, the accessories. Everything feels solid and of quality. The charger is again, high quality. It know how to keep the battery charged without overcharging it and will keep it properly maintained over the winter. From an operational perspective, the mower cuts and mulches to perfection. It is strong and the battery lasts much longer than expected! With the Black & Decker, (same size battery) , I ended up mowing my yard on the last drops of electricity in the battery. With this machine, I still have almost 40%-50% power left after I'm done. The self pace mechanism is fantastic. I've no idea why are people complaining about it. It is sensitive to the twist of the handle and it is up to you to decide how fast it will go. Part of my yard is in a slope and I'm not running after the mower on the way down or up. It does takes few minutes of getting used to it, but once you understand how it works, it is amazing. Bottom line, this mower worth every cent you invest in it. Excellent value for the money.

I've been watching the Worx mowers on Amazon for quite some time but really wanted a self propelled one. When I saw that it was now available with the self propelled feature, I bought it even after reading the negative reviews. As an older woman with tendonitis in the shoulders, the easier the better. I was having great difficulty pulling the cord to start my old machine.

The mower arrived in perfect condition and ready to use right out of the box. No assembly required (loved it). I took it out back to give it a spin just to make sure it worked. It took a minute to get the hang of but before I knew it I had mowed the entire backyard and the battery still had a full charge. The mower starts with a push of a button. I put the dial on "power" because the grass was a little thick and off it went. It is a little louder in the "power" mode. The fast I walked I could feel mower pace quicken. The mower wasn't jerky or heavy. When the self propel function broke on my old machine I found out what it was like to "push" a mower. I breezed through my 1/4 acre yard with this machine.

Is it worth the $500? It may be a bit pricey. But, after the money I spent on a lawn service last year and with the price of gas, it will pay for itself.

I would recommend this mower.

Bought this mower this summer and unlike others, who are quick to judge or review before really using the item & giving it a fair evaluation... I waited. On the whole I really do like this mower, although it does have its flaws. Yes.. it is heavy due to the lead acid battery yet many gas powered mowers with steel decks aren't that much lighter. Everything works better than expected, with the exception of the self propelled function.

In theory.. the way this mower is supposed to work, when walking forward the user is pushing the handle forward that controls the mower's wheel drive motor. The drive speed is supposed to be proportional to the amount of forward movement of the handle and how far forward the handle is in its travel depend on the walking speed of the user. The faster a user walks the farther forward in the travel the handle will be most of the time. The intent is for the motor speed to match the walking speed of the user. Unless the users pace exceeds the drive speed maximum or the user changes their pace so rapidly that the drive motor cannot get up to speed fast enough to match the users pace the handle controlling the speed of the drive motor should never run out of travel and tell the drive motor to go at maximum speed. The problem with the self propelled function of this mower is that the response of the motor driving the wheels to changes in speed required by the user is too slow for the short amount of handle movement to accurately control it. The result is that the user will begin to mow and by the time the drive motor has reacted to the user, the handle is all the way forward. The drive motor is still building speed when the handle is on the way back.

The idea of this self propelled mower that adjust to your walking speed is a great idea, but it doesn't work as advertised. I have now mowed my grass 4 times with it. I waited to review it since I thought some of the problems were just a matter of my getting used to it. They aren't. The fact the mower does not adjust to my speed results in me having to push it (not easy) before it takes off or it taking off faster than I can walk which tends to cause the front wheels to raise up and miss spots. The mulching aspect probably has a bad blade design because I will look back over what I have done and see individual blades it didn't cut (I think not enough suction to pull the grass up when it is cutting). What it does mulch comes out as the full length of what it has cut instead of like other mulching mowers where the turbulence in the mower seemed to chop up the grass finer than this one does. As a result, I'm left with streaks or clumps of grass that dies, dries and kills grass upon which it is laying, in spite of the fact I'm careful to not let the grass get very long before I cut it (only about 2 inches are being cut off). Also, all this is in spite of the fact I cut only a half mower strip at a time so that I overlap what is previously cut with half the mower. When backing up, I have to wait awhile since the gear system does not disengage readily to allow me to pull the mower backwards. However, I get impatient and find myself pulling the mower backwards with the rear wheels locked and not moving - very difficult. It takes me about twice as long to cut my yard with this 19 inch mower as it did with my gas powered 22 inch mower. The concepts and ideas of this mower as advertised are great. It just doesn't live up to its advertisement. Sorry - Worx - but these are the facts as I see them.
