This review is from: WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE: EMIL (Toy)
McFarlane's Where the Wild Things Are figures were pretty much perfect as a whole, and Emil continues the trend. He was the third Wild Thing figure I got, and though he wasn't exactly a favorite of mine in the book, I love this figure. In fact, it made me appreciate the design and realize how cool he is.

Like the others, Emil is a fairly heavy figure with a flawless sculpt. Every feather is right there, with little scratches in his talons and beak, just like they appear in the book. And of course he has the trademark ink scratch design too. You can move his arms and tail around, and he's one of the only Wild Things that can stand on his own without the base, though you'll probably want to have him on it just to match the other figures if you go for the whole set. There's not a bad thing I can say about the look of this figure- like all the others, McFarlne got the colors down perfectly, just like they did the transition from 2D drawing to 3D sculpt.

But he has the same problem as all the other figures- he's fragile. Luckily, Emil isn't as heavy as the big boys like Moishe, Aaron and Bernard, and his weight is balanced pretty evenly. But his tail and arms are prone to breaking off if you pull a little too hard, so be careful. Also, you might want to watch it if your kids play with him because his talons and head feathers are a bit pokey.

Figures like this make me wish McFarlane would lay off Halo and sports and go back to the truly unique licenses. Emil would make not only a great addition to your toy collection, but of course compliments the other Wild Things. Even if you didn't care much for him in the book, seeing this toy in person will probably change your mind.
