I live in a dry, desert region in Southern California and the summers can get over 100o easily. The cost of running your AC here in astronomical and the fact that this unit uses only 57 watts on the high setting is already saving me tons of money.

The air purifier aspect seems to be working well. The air quality here is horrible, but since I've been using the FH-776, I've noticed it's somewhat easier to breathe.

Fan and air cooling ability? Very, very good. The fan can be set to swing mode so it'll get more coverage. The ice packs it comes with are somewhat useless(I just add ice cubes to the water tank), but the cold compress helps(it sits just above the water tank to help cool any evaporating air and cools it more before being blown out).

I mostly use it in a room of about 450 sq ft and it does ok during the day. To feel its effects during the day, you need to be sitting right in the air path, which feels great. I run it the most at night in front of a window(to pull in cool air) and the whole room is nice and cool by morning.

It's very portable: four wheel casters and side handles for easy moving and it can be put in a corner when not using it. The removable filter can be cleaned quickly and easily. The water tank is very accessible and will shut off if you open it to fill it up.

The modes you can run it in are good: nature, breeze, sleep. Nature has a consistent flow of air. Breeze will change just like actual breezes: strong one second, weak the next. Sleep mode automatically changes from off, low, med and high at varied intervals.

Finally, the 7.5 hour timer is great. I've set it right before going to bed and even after it had shut off, it still had some water in the tank when I got up.

Oh yeah, and the remote comes in very handy. The only button missing on the remote is to turn on the air purifier aspect, but that's ok.

I'm giving this 3 stars because of the water stain on my carpet!

The cooler works well the few times we've used it. It doesn't seem to need super-low humidity.

When we received the unit, we read the instructions thoroughly. We added water & we turned it on. We were pleased at the cool air it generated.

About 1/2 hour later, we checked the unit & the water was almost empty. It turns out that there is a hose that circulates the water back into the water tray. That hose rests (on the right side of the unit) on a flat tray with a small hole in it, and it was supposed to drip back into the water reservoir. However the water flies out of that hose so quickly it overwhelms the flat tray & then leaks out of the bottom of the unit... and onto the carpet!

Once we readjusted the hose so that the water actually went back into the water reservoir, it seems to work fine & no more leaks.

This is a great little cooler for a room where a portable air conditioner is impossible (no way to vent)...It noticeably makes the room cooler and is quiet (Lisa's must have been defective). Though I have to admit there doesn't appear an easy way to empty the water, filling it is pretty easy. Comes with a remote and has several different settings. Overall a great item!

I was initially concerned about the humidity level because I needed it in my office with my computers and papers. I really did not have to worry-This cooler is great!! I am seriously thinking about buying another one for my house!!

I bought this for my mother. She loves it! She was very pleased with the performance. But remember, it is not an air conditioner. If you are looking for something cooler with winter type temperature, get and air conditioner.

Low price but it looks pretty slick. Great remote that sticks to the side of the unit with a magnet. Let me just say, I have had this air cooler for 5 years now. Used virtually every day for hours at a time during summer and it still works nicely, every single function. Very effective heater in winter. As it's gotten older, it has to sort of warm up longer and longer till the fan slowly gets up to full speed... Odd. But apart from that as long as you keep the removable air filter clean (just rinse it) it does everything remarkably well. I cannot recommend this enough.

Keep in mind it's NOT an air conditioner, it doesn't have a huge effect on the temperature even with the frozen bits. In fact, living about 150 yards from the shoreline, on a hot humid day the added humidity can actually make you feel hotter. This is the same for any evaporative cooler however so I certainly can't lover the rating for it.

I purchased this a few weeks ago and it works great, it is a great humidifier and when we use it as a cooler to cool the room it works great..I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something to use in a small room.

The Whirwind is the proper name for this great apparatus. I live in am apartment in a old building. I love the place, but the only thing that gets bad is the summer weather. I can't install an air conditioner, so I bought this machine. It worked pefectly!
It is definitely an air cooler, and with that great price, a must for any budget.

We love our new swamp cooler! It is effective, pleasant and easy to use. It has totally saved us during recent heatwaves in our S.Californian valley. The only downside was a sour smell after a couple of weeks' use, although we were changing the water regularly. When I contacted the company, they suggested adding some dish soap. This didn't work, but then we stumbled on the solution- adding baking soda to the water. This has proved very effective.

I bought this for my apartment that does not have an air conditioner or the ability to put in a window one either. We only receive about 3 months of hot weather so I figured the air cooler would be enough to balance it out. It works really well, I enjoy the timer, and the water is usually still halfway fool after a nights sleep. I can notice a change in the air quality in the room when I am using it, and I also enjoy the air cooler if only for the humidifier effects. I am going to be moving soon into a new apartment with an air conditioner but I still plan on using the air cooler mainly for the fan, purifier, and humidifier benefits. Works well, I simply put in ice rather than using the ice packs though...
