Book Description

Working at home alone, a fall gale howling around the rafters, Amy jumps when an object suddenly strikes the window behind her. She swings around to see a woman's rain-streaked face staring through the dark glass. Her fair hair is rain-soaked, but more disturbing, the ghostly face is ... identical to Amy's! There is a movement off to the side. The woman's left hand hand slides slowly down the glass leaving long streaks of crimson.

Amy's life shatters. Something sinister shadows her now. She is catapulted into a world she knows nothing about . . . a place where a killer rules, where her life is in constant peril, and where she believes her son has been taken.

To find Jamie, she must find her look-alike, dislodging a killer who hunts her relentlessly. Sheriff Dallas Wayburne's investigation parallels Amy's. They are thrown together in a race against time.

WINTER'S DESTINY is an edge-of-the-seat thriller - love story set on the rugged Pacific Coast of Oregon where the story reaches a spectacular conclusion.

Nancy Allan is also the author of "SOUL FIRE".

Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I just kept turning and turning pages, to see who did what and WHY. Every chapter pulled me in further, I LOVED IT, if you like suspense and mystery, you should like this book.

From the Author

One fall while my husband and I were visiting Oregon's untamed coast, a storm struck with such ferocity that it rocked our parked RV crazily, the wind howled with menace, storm waves surpassed previous highs, and we were pelted relentlessly with blowing sand and rain. We are no strangers to the coast, but the sudden, incredible ferocity of this storm was humbling.
By morning the rising sun shone brilliantly over the vast Pacific Ocean, defying any memory of the night. This intriguing, pristine coast is not only host to sudden weather extremes but such raw, breathtaking beauty that I wanted to share it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! January 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Checked this out because it was a free book for my new Kindle. I had never read this author, but the plot sounded interesting. I can tell you it was a great read...especially if you like Catherine Coulter, Lisa Gardner or Iris Johansen! Once I started, I read the book in one sitting. There were twists and turns that kept me guessing all the way to the end. I would love to read other books written by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thrills and Chills September 1, 2012
By Teeker
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Amy Johnson is a successful architect married to a doctor and the mother of a little boy whom she loves deeply. At home one night she hears a sound and turns to the window to see what it is. Who would ever expect to see a figure at their window who is not only bloody but looks just like you?!! Amy's life takes a quick turn from the normal. She finds herself looking for the woman at the window only to have her son go missing and her life in constant peril. Allan has written a successful thriller. She certainly holds your interest and keeps you turning the pages. I would definitely look for other books that she has written but when I did a search, found that this was her only book so far. I also read some of the comments in other reviews about editing and all the mistakes that appear in a story. I have found that many of the books that I have gotten for my Kindle have this problem and wonder if they have had no editing done to them. Those errors, however, will never affect how I rate a story. Think of the times that a teacher graded your paper in school and gave you two grades. One for content and the other for mechanics. Let's rate the content and let others worry about the mechanics later.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Over the Top August 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read this book and basically enjoyed it, but there were a few drawbacks. Obviously the author has a lot of imagination and is able to draw the reader into a story with vivid description and detail. But...there were so many incidents of threat to Amy that it almost felt like the Perils of Pauline! It just kind of got crazy. And Amy was a wee bit of a ditz. Not to spoil the plot, but if your husband leaves you suddenly, would you leave your child with his sister who you had uncomfortable feelings about? The most glaring flaws were the terrible mistakes in basic grammar and word usage. If the author paid someone to edit this book she should demand her money back! You simply do not write "Dan and I" after a preposition - like "she gave the present to Dan and I." The Spanish title for a male is not "Senior" but Senor!" Of course you need a tilde...Anyhow, the book was fun and kept me engrossed in spite of the serious grammar mistakes. That's saying something, I guess because I'm really persnickety about grammar, word usage and even spelling. With a competent, caring editor/mentor and a basic course in high school grammar, this writer could produce some really fine material. I got the book for free, but even if I'd spent 3 dollars for it I wouldn't have felt ripped off. Just saying that the author could do better and needs to seek out someone who will help with her flaws.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read January 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
With strong characters and a lively plot line, Winters Destiny is a well written mystery/thriller. The pace will keep the pages turning. The writing flows and narration strong voice is compelling. There's a nice rhythm to the piece. The sub-plots augment and enhance the story line and keep it moving forward. This is a good and enjoyable read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time! December 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I should have listened to the negative reviews - there was action - sure but it was more like Keystone Cops meets Stephanie Plum, meets Barney Fife, meets Dr Frankenstein, trying to meet James Bond with a little Die Hard and Lethal Weapon thrown in for good measure. Way over the top and the basic plot was too weird. Whew! And the editing needs work. Many time two words were inserted as if she was trying to decide which adjective to use and then just used both, which makes no sense at all. And right in the middle of a dangerous chase, Dallas is told to go save Amy cause she is in desperate danger..... REALLY! I could say more but would just get derogatory I fear.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not sure HOW this got such a high rating? July 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I couldn't finish this book, and that's rare for me.. the only GOOD thing I can say is it WAS proofed and I didn't find spelling errors.. the lead character comes across as brainless, sort of "save me! I'm blond and beautiful" she bounces around from catastrophe to catastrophe... and really didn't build any kind of connection to the reader.. about half way through I started to get angry at HER.. her stupidity is boggling... there are bad guys chasing you, you idiot.. how about you stay safe and carry a damn gun?? she goes from being a doormat to a "heroine" over night. and the whole plot was totally implausible.. I'm glad so many others enjoyed it.. I'm not a feminist.. but good lord! this woman needs a swift kick! and YES Author.. I get it.. she's gorgeous! unfortunately that's ALL she has going for her..

It had a lot of twists and turns in the plot but it was interesting. I liked the setting of the novel and the strength of the main character. I was surprised by the revelation the ending of the book revealed. I recommended it to my friend and loaned it to her thru Kindle.
