A great documentary about the life's of 4 triathletes, mostly about Peter Reid.
If your looking for training info this is NOT it! It's a nice inside in the way these athletes life there everyday life's and the problems they encounter.

No matter what stage of a triathlete you are, this is great! Sit down with some of your tri buddies, grab some granola and water and enjoy!! The four featured athletes share their lives for one year as they prepare for the World championships in Hawaii. Their failures, successess, strengths and weaknesses only add to your training and motivation to get on the course and do you best. As a side note, I have to say Peter Reid is one interesting fellow!! When you watch, you'll get it!

A group hug for Peter,
This review is from: What It Takes (Misc.)
I wonder in years to come what Peter Reid will make of this period in his life?
Hopefully it will mark the beginning of the end of his search to love and be loved. Clearly the timing of the filming was unfortunate as he was just going through a divorce and it may not have effected him athletically, although many will say it did, I hope that he isn't normally like this. The film is an intimate look at his life and the day to day existence of Peter and three other athletes. Watching this with a group of triathletes was much better than watching it alone. It's a great testiment to the effort they put in, and this was a great film to see what it takes. I hope retirement is treating you well Peter!

I expected to documentary to go into a bit more detail about their training regimes...not exactly extensively discussed here. Also, Peter Reid comes across as a big whiner. Yes, he had a tough year that year, but come on! He's an elite athlete, but so clearly has an eating disorder (he admits that himself). Not exactly someone I would like to aspire to be like...
The other athletes in the documentary are exemplary and very inspiring. Again, just not the type of information I was expecting to get.

good dvd. does not give and training recipe. it's an insight about pro triathlete's lives. it shows their obsessiveness and also determination in pursuing their dreams. it also shows the struggles and the difficulty of reaching balance in life when training/working towards such high expectations.

Inspiring profiles of triathlon champs in training!,

Superb profiles of four elite triathletes, offering some insights as to the sacrifices and trade-offs they make in their personal lives and relationships to compete at this exalted level. It is not always a balanced life, but maybe you can't have balance when you strive to be THE best at something.
Pop it in the DVD, watch it, then get off the couch and start training! Fun to watch if only for the motivational caffeine blast periodically.

The name says it all. If you want to know what some of the best triathletes do to stay at an elite level then you need to see this video. After watching it, I have even more respect then ever for the top pros.
