I didn't buy my WMF Long Bread Box on Amazon. Yet, I am so pleased with how well it WORKS, that I thought I should write something. I've used bread boxes since my apartment days in the 1980s. I've purchased various models and always thought that they were more for clearing a counter than functionality. I must say that the WMF Long bread box (I never used other WMF products) actually keeps bread very fresh. In other words, day old bagels/rolls remain soft and not dried out, and are edible without being toasted or frozen. Bread stays fresh for days on end. It's really remarkable. I like the glass front on the box too. There's not much area for finger prints. It's a solid, weighty box. My prior $60 or so boxes were for show only. I think the WMF bread box is WORTH the higher price tag. And as a true bargain hunter, that's difficult for me to admit! It's a great product.

So the bread box arrived promptly and I was a little annoyed at the fact that it came partially assembled considering how expensive this one was compared to others. After 45 minutes trying to have the glass front sit in the appropriate metal grooves I finally decided to take the whole thing apart because it seemed it had been partially put together in the wrong way. And it had. The plastic/ rubber pieces intended to protect the glass from the metal grooves were also very shabby and i hope the breaks and tears in this material will not compromise the air tight seal of the box. also the glass lid arrived with one corner chipped and because it was not assembled for delivery this likely occurred during shipping. Once assembled (about 1 hr 15 min) the box looks great and functions moderately well, but for the cost and hassle of set up i recommend going with a cheaper pre-assembled bread box. But if you go for this one, make sure not to throw away two shabby-looking strips of rubber that seem to be trash amongst the rest of the delivery, they are essential to keep the glass from smacking the metal grooves every time the box is opened or closed.

Functionality: if you are intending to put entire baguettes in this bread box, think again, for a 'large' bread box it fits only 3 small loaves.
