I was suspicious about purchasing it since it is made in China; when I got it I was pleasantly surprise. This is a great potato masher. It is very sturdy and ergonomic. The head is actually oval unlike other mashers that are round or square and because of this design it fits into a pot much nicer. I didn't get the Rosle masher because I don't like the ring around the base of the handle. I may want to use two hands to mash because I have small hands and that idea would not work well for me. This masher is really great.

My old masher was the plastic kind with lines that go back and forth, that you have to stop and clean out every ten seconds. Never again! We are a small household, so I usually only mash 2-3 potatoes at once, but with this masher, they are mashed in 1-2 minutes or less (seriously never more than 2 min.!), with no stopping to clean it out. You just keep mashing and before you know it, you've got mashed potatoes. The only drawback is this masher is above-average in price, so I gave it 4/5 stars, but I would have given it 4.5/5 or 90% if I could have. If you don't mind paying almost twenty bucks for a potato masher, get this one. It really works great.

This is a sturdy masher that makes short work of potatoes. I wished it were a little less expensive, but it does its job well and looks like it will last a long time. I like the round mashers better than the wire versions because they reach the edges of the pan more completely.

I bought this after experiencing difficulty making mashed potatoes with a ricer and previous ho-hum experience with other potato mashers. When I took it out of the box, it seemed awfully small, not the industrial strength masher I thought I'd ordered. This masher seems to rip through potatoes without having to use much strength. It leaves a creamy rather than chunky potato stream and the head doesn't become mired in a glutinous potato prison. Quick, efficient, it makes silky smooth mashed potatoes easy to produce.

Mashin' Perfection,

My old-school zigzag-style masher did a terrible job, so I would usually resort to the electric mixer. Better, but not lump-free. This masher, with its small holes, acts more like a ricer but is much easier to use, in my opinion. My potatoes were mashed in a flash, with no lumps. I don't understand how anyone could think this is not an immense improvement over the old-style mashers. This masher is a little pricey, but is so well-made and solid, I'll probably be heirlooming it to one of my kids someday. Cook's Illustrated got it right again!

Makes short work of mashing even a large pan of potatoes, yet small enough head to fit smaller saucepans as well, and the oval shape indeed leaves no spud unturned. Almost as good as a ricer, but without all the fuss and mess.
Quick and easy cleanup, too! Worth every penny if you want a solid, all-stainless masher that does what it is supposed to with consummate ease. Will never go back to a cheap one again!

Cook's Illustrated rated this tool wisely. I love it and this was a hard sell for my and my Norweigan roots of a ricer. Hands down I still love a potato ricer however this is fast and easy and gives great fluffy mashed potatoes.

This device turned out fully, light and flavorful mashed potatoes with reasonably little effort. The tool's round handle was easy to grip for this Senior Citizen. The rounded edges adjsuted to the curves of the saucepan.

This potato masher was purchased upon recommendation by Cook's Illustrated, a cooking magazine that actually tests the recipes and the tools many times before recommending a certain thing. Of all the mashers, the WMF Profi Plus was rated the best for it's value.
After using it a few time, I agree. The handle was easy to hold and the right width for a good grip, the holes in the masher allowed the mashed potatoes to go through and leave the unmashed behind, and the masher didn't slip around in the bowl. Finally the contraption was steel and had a lot of broad surface area instead of tiny wires so it very easy to clean manually or you can stick it in the dishwasher.

After all the rave reviews, I was a little disappointed. I thought the mashing disk was too small and it was awkward to handle and mash. Results were OK, but not better than the wire type we've used for years. Actually wanted the Rosle masher, but balked at the price.
