Excellent product but pricey,

I have three of these that I picked up in Germany last year, where they're only slightly cheaper at about 15 Euro apiece. The ceramic mechanism makes for a very adjustable, very consistent grind and you never have to worry about the burrs rusting. One tip for anyone wanting to change spices is to grind some rock salt through the mechanism. That seems to do a pretty good job of cleaning out residue. However, I'd caution against trying to use the same grinder both for normal spices/herbs and wildly aromatic or spicy things like dried chilis--you'll be hard-pressed to get the strong smell out 100%. However, I have to knock a star from the WMF version due to some excellent competition from IKEA. They sell a ceramic spice mill for less than half the price which appears to have an almost identical ceramic mechanism. Better yet, IKEA sells a cheap 3-pack of glass spice jars that are identical twins to the one that comes with their ceramic spice mill, letting you easily remove the grinding mechanism and screw it onto your different spice jars as needed.

I love this item,

This spice mill is fabulous! I'd like one for every spice in my cabinet, including pepper. The ceramic grinding mechanism is sturdy, works well, and adjusts from fine to coarse easily and reliably. Doesn't look bad, either.

you can pay more, but why? I've been shopping for years to aquire a mill with a ceramic mechanism, but just couldn't part with the money that was being asked. When I saw this one I figured what the heck. Believe me, I cook alot for alot of pple. and these are the ticket at the stove and the table. They adjust as good as any mills I've owned and the "feel" is the best. Plus, the design for opening and filling is the definition of "ease of use". I've purchased 4 now: salt, two kinds of pepper, and coriander seed. I'll buy a few more too and try them with other spice mixtures like Dry Spice rubs.

Throw away all other salt/ppper/spice mills, the WMF Ceramill is the only one to own. I have a kitchen cabinet full of salt/pepper mills and what a mess. There is always salt and pepper leaking out and half the time they do not work properly. Then I found the Ceramill NO MORE MESS and they work perfectly everytime.

Powerful grinding,

These are actually designed to fit into a stainless steel rack and be held by the white plastic lid. (European kitchens often have utensils and spices attached to steel rails on the splashback tile. The rack system may not be available yet here.) They are a bit pricey to buy for every spice, but they grind so well, you should at least get one for each spice you prefer to grind fresh. The ceramic works far better than steel, clogging less and making a fine, even powder. Great for pepper, but also nice for dried garlic, herbs and salt. Really superb.

Buy two,

Buy two. I make a lot of Indian food and African recipes and these call for fresh ground herbs and spices. The only suggestion I would make, if you are a serious cook, is buy and extra glass jar as a back up. Because anyone who does their own ground herbs and spices knows you need to not blend some. Also use a decent paint brush to sweep out the blades between uses.

A Nice Little Spice Grinder,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: WMF Ceramill Glass Spice Mill (Kitchen)
This is a quite fine little spice grinder. I bought it so I could dispense with my mortar and pestal, and it works very well. I've tried it with coriander seeds and allspice, and am very happy with the results. The grinder has a knob that allows you to adjust how coarse or fine the grind is. It's very compact; the jar that feeds the spices into the grinder is small, but hey, how much are you going to grind at once? The cover on the bottom is a convenient receptacle for catching ground spice, and if you have a very small measuring spoon you can measure it right out of there. The grinder mechanism is ceramic, and the German manufacturer claims it's harder than metal and will be replaced if it breaks. This is a slick little product. It made me glad I didn't break down and by a coffee grinder instead. Five stars and a high recommendation.

Best Spice Mill,
By A Customer
This review is from: WMF Ceramill Glass Spice Mill (Kitchen)
I really like this spice mill. I bought it to use for a variety of Indian spices, but have used it exclusively for pepper. I don't often measure pepper, but the cover comes in handy for that purpose; just grind with the cover on, then measure what falls into it. I have another similar spice grinder which was less expensive. It doesn't work as well, but I discovered that McCormick spice jars fit it. When I checked the WMF for a similar fit I was disappointed, just a little too large.

Great Quality Grinder-Worth every penny!,
By A Customer
This review is from: WMF Ceramill Glass Spice Mill (Kitchen)
After going through several grinders that broke after only a few uses, I purchased two of these in May 2002. They are used daily (one for sea salt & one for pepper) and still look brand new after twenty months. The design makes them exceptionally easy to fill and the grinding mechanism is extremely durable. I highly recommend this grinder-it is a great value.

The best spice grinder,

This spice mill is the best that I've ever seen. I only wish that I could get extra spice jars with lids to store spices to be ground. I will be buying several more.
