WMF Clever and More Champagne Bottle Stopper

So far, this one has won out over the others I've tried that look exactly like it. It's so very hard to tell when you're making a purchase!

The problem I have is special: I needed a champagne stopper for a NARROW neck of Gloria Ferrer. We didn't discover, until after opening the Ferrer, that only their Cuvee has this strange neck, and none of the three stoppers we owned would grip the neck.

The first thing I did was email Ferrer, since our bottle of bubbly went fairly flat--we're rather slow drinkers. Unfortunately, champagne producers must have elevated self-opinions, since they did not even deign to email me back.

Meanwhile, this Clever snaps down on the side tightly on a narrow neck. In fact, I began picking up the bottle by the helmet, one-handed, without fear that I would lose the bottle underneath it on the way to the fridge.

And, as a bonus, my husband, on a a hot day this week, was elated to discover that it works great on his beer bottles!

This product worked well for a while, but did not hold up to use. The rivet detached from the center plastic cork on one side and it would no longer maintain the pressure.

I would suggest going with an all metal design instead of plastic and specifically recommend the Screwpull Metal Champagne sealerScrewpull Metal Champagne Crown Sealer, Satin Chrome. It is heavily built and easier to use since it does not require you to put pressure against the spring when sealing.

We have one of these that's got to be 25 years old, maybe older. The rubber gasket got a tear on one edge, but it still seems to work. At any rate, we bought another one, and it's pretty similar, the metal has a more brushed finish than the old one does, which is shinier chrome. We drink champagne just about every week, and this stopper is easy to use, uncomplicated and seems to have a good seal. It's kinda elegant, too.

The product looks great, is easy to clean, and maintains a seal for a long period of time. We finished off our new years champagne a few weeks later with no discernable loss of bubbles.
